How does $1.50 Bintangs turn into a $550 night? Thought it was a good thing footing the bill with the smallest group we’ve had going out!

3 of us in Thailand were drinking 60 cent Heinikens, mate had his birthday so put $300 over the bar. We ended up chucking in another $300 each.
$1200 for 60 cent beers between 3 of us! (Admittedly there was some food, shots and lady boys in there but still)

Could have bought a freaking house over there for that!

Nup, we're still quite good friends with them.
Take us places for free, lend us their bikes, etc and I've even stayed at one of their places.
We went through it the next day with them, was pretty scary, was obviously the shots and cocktails that helped!
God knows how we managed the walk to Bangla Rd from Otop later that night!

Hate to think how much more it would cost us these days as it was almost 35 baht to the dollar back then!

Has anyone had or know someone who has had an ankle stabilisation surgery before?
My daughter hurt her ankle badly 4 years ago, and never been right since - not so much pain, but not stable.
We took the MRI results to the ortho surgeon today, he grabbed her ankle and pulled it back and forth and he gave out an audible gasp as it moved so far...guessing that's not good news.
He recommended the surgery, but interested if anyone has had it and what it was like for recovery/back to normal after etc.

I was suppose to have one 15 years ago but as I had just finished playing footy I didn’t see the point.
Problem is I roll it very easy as it’s loose.
Rolled it pissed many a times! lol

If it was my daughter I’d be looking into it especially if still playing sport but even as she gets older it’ll get worse not better.
If private it’s not cheap and if public you’ll be waiting a few years

Yep, my daughter had an ankle reconstruction done 8 years ago when she was 15 as it used to give way regularly. From memory, she was in a moon boot for 4-6 weeks and was able to recommence playing sport after 3 months, but she took a bit longer to play competitively (netball). She also had an advantage in her recovery as her Mum is a Physio.

In some ways it’s stronger than her other ankle (which is also unstable to some extent) and whilst she has twisted it a few times since, the surgery has held and the result has always been similar to a minor sprain.

We have private so have the excess fee and can get in end of July, so that side is no issue.

That recovery is exactly what the surgeon said. Will be back doing sports in 3 months. She is almost 18, so makes sense to get it right now while she is young. Her main sport is soccer so not as much stop start as netball.

Yep. ATFL reconstruction 10 years ago last March. 45 minute surgery, crutches or a week and moon boot for 6 weeks. Sitting toilet was a challenge but you worked out what worked for you.

Recovery was good except my calf didn't recover as good as the ankle. Took me a good 10 weeks to be able to hit the continuous raises before being cleared to run. Returned to the cricket field in time for the following season opening the bowling.

Would say 95% functionality has returned which is excellent and I don't notice it unless I cop a knock or light roll. Strapped it with tape or lace up brace ever since for sports and haven't played any court sports either. I'd stopped playing footy before that too.

just with her age and wanting to play sport still at a decent level, think she should.
The deciding factor for me was when we were in the Dr office, he asked her when she notices it, and she told him sometimes she starts using her left foot to drive instead of her right foot cause it was feeling bad.
