Vale Mark Pitman

Postby Hondo » Thu Nov 01, 2007 10:12 am

I believe Mark Pitman played for Central Districts in the 80s or thereabouts. A work colleague who knew Mark told me this sad news. Condolences to his all who knew him, especially his young family.

From Barossa Herald, 30 October 2007 - 5:57PM

The Barossa football and business community have been shocked by the passing of football icon Mark Pitman.
Pitman, 44, suffered a serve stroke last Friday and was put on life support which was switched off on Saturday morning.

Pitman passed away at 2.05 on Tuesday afternoon.

One of the most influential footballers and coaches during the two decades of BL&G football, Mark was highly respected and has been the coach of Kapunda football club for the past seven years.

Our thoughts go out to his wife Michelle, children Hannah and Paige and the extended family on their loss.
In between signatures .....

Far out thats a shock  :(

I remember watching Mark play plenty of times during the Golden period of the 80's during which, the ultimate success eluded the Dogs, but they were always hard to score a win over and played an entertaining brand of footy.

Condolensces to the Pitman family.

Was one of my faves as a very young Doggies fan.

Am sure the Kapunda community will be devestated.

Very sad, and very young, not much older than me. I played cricket against him a few times, and he was always the true sportsman. RIP. :(

EFF! I'm 44.
Use to think this sort of stuff happened to OLD people, like my
grandmother who died the same way @ 72.
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

From the SAFC Website,

It is with sadness that we announce the death of a former South Adelaide Player Mark Pitman who, at 43 years of age, tragically passed away after suffering a massive stroke at home. Mark played 35 games for Central between 1984-1986 and 27 games for South Adelaide 1987-1988. Wearing guernsey number 18, he played alongside other Panthers such as Michael Bennett, Brenton Honor, David Kappler, Andrew Brockhurst.
His funeral  Mass is Monday 5th November at 11:00AM at the Brenton Langbein Theatre, part of the Barossa Arts and Convention Centre, Magnolia Rd, Tanunda. Following Mass his cortege will proceed to the Clare Rd Cemetery at Kapunda. Mark leaves his wife, Michelle, and daughters Hanna and Paige.

As I posted on the 'normal' forum, this has really shaken up Tanunda. Had a drink at the Valley Hotel where Mark was a regular on Friday nights, pretty sad to see all his family, especially two young kids. A massive shock no doubt, especially the way it happened.

The funeral was today, apparently the 3 Barossa clubs he played for formed a guard of honour, a nice touch.
