History of Media Awards

Postby rossfootball » Fri Nov 02, 2007 7:21 pm

Greetings from Tassie, history colleagues.

Do any of you know when the first press, radio/tv "best player" awards
were presented for players in the SANFL competition ?

Here in Tasmania, the earliest I've found so far is 1938 Examiner award for the NTFA.

By the early 1950s ABC radio was giving awards to NWFU, NTFA and TFL.

By mid to late 1960s I think our local Launceston tv channel TNT-9 had an award for NTFA.

Will await your comments with interest.

The earliest one I can think of is The Football Budget player of the year. This was voted for the public. I think it started sometime in the 1920s. I know for sure that Ken Farmer won it in 1930.

Somewhere I have a list of when the other media awards started. I'll try to dig that up.
