The easiest fix was 7 X rounds of two dayers and 7 X rounds of one dayers.
Play everyone twice, home and away. Flip the home / away the next season
This is Tony Clifton! A name to respect! A name to fear!

I'd change the 2 day comp to 3-days (Sat/Sat/Sun) and play 7 Rounds and play the same points system as the Sheffield Shield. Top 2 play a 4-day Final Sat/Sun/Sat/Sun.
One Day Comp can be played on Saturday's and T20 Comp a mixture of Saturday's and Tuesday nights so there isn't any more Sunday cricket than there currently is.

Like that idea a lot....of 2x7 and 1x7......but clubs will winge whatever happens
Lets face it....nobody knows who the bottom side will be the following March.....when the draw is announced in August Who would've guessed last years GF sides.....glenelg and port would be in the gun for relegation last August Whatever happens.....gotta be a one dayer the last game. Stops dodgy declarations.....dodgy results. Been going on since Adam was a boy....and will continue until the last game is a 1 dayer Stops clubs playing games.....in the last minor round games The penultimate game.....like Adelaide and Gullies is different.....very smart from Adelaide declaring.....smart captaincy IMO

In my view having a points system spread over a couple of seasons, is a much better way to have promotion/relegation. I can live with one club a season, but given the number of grade games which are impacted by State representatives not being available, makes the current process of having 2 teams relegated highly problematic.
So next season having the possibility of having McSweeney, Scott, Doggett playing in Division 2 is beyond farcical. The bottom 2 teams in division 2 are beyond poor. You potentially have third grade players playing in games against people who play for/will play for Australia.
I.E. Rank amateurs v professionals. How is that good for the culture of cricket in this state?
What rubbish, Glenelg sit where they are on the ladder because they are not good enough this year and have not won a premiership for more than a decade so do not deserve any special favours. In half a century they have won as many premierships as Prospect, Northern Districts and Southern Districts, and less than East Torrens and Woodville, so they are hardly out of place.
The star players in their side can redistribute themselves to Div 1 teams next year as designed.
Remaining in Division 1 would be rewarding mediocrity.
beef wrote:Can anyone who understands the ladder better than me let me know if northern districts can get to 3rd if they win the last game in div 2?
Yes, if Northerns defeat or draw with East Torrens and SACA U19's defeat Woodville, Northerns would move to 3rd.
5 pts each for a Draw 20 pts for 1st Innings win Bonus 10 pts for Outright win
Think the maths are a bit out there. Northern Districts have to win. A draw/NR won't be good enough.
If SACA's finish 2nd, they play finals and whoever finishes 3rd is straight through to Div 1. (along with ET who have already qualified for promotion) What a way to get promoted!

Correct IT, Northerns have to win. Wet weather Sunday another spanner in the works
Maybe if SACA 19’s make the GF, then only one team gets relegated, Glenelg stay in Div 1.
Or maybe on the GF weekend, Glenelg play Woodville to determine who plays in Div 1 next year, the Bays would win outright.
Apologies if this has been mentioned before but is the 2 division concept in place for 3 seasons and then up for review? The way things are going this year then the 3rd placed Div 2 team (either Woodville or ND) who are technically the 11th-ranked team (when you add the 2 divisions together) will be replacing the 7th placed team (probably Glenelg). Also, whilst I agree Glenelg haven't been up to it this year, the 3 teams they have had to play twice are all in the top 4 (Sturt, Kensington, WT). Like a previous post also about 7 x 1 dayers and 7 x 2 dayers for Div 1, this happens in Darwin and it seems to work well. 1st round is 1 dayers and the top 2 at the end of the first round play in the 1 day GF. Then the season continues with the 2 dayers with the top 4 then in finals. I know they've made a change in the last year or 2 with the rankings. It used to be at the end of the "1 day round", the ladder positions remained to continue into the "2 day round", but that has since been changed to re-starting the ladder when the 2 day round start (I stand corrected on this).
I think there is every chance the SACA will stuff this up more. Clearly the recipe for success is now to ignore local player development and just recruit, which seems to be working at first class level and premier cricket. The 2 divisions are (and was always going to be) a nonsense.

Totally agree. The Hussey report said to target the best players from around Australia maybe on the outer with their State. We did that and success has come with potential 2 premierships. Our team has limited SA players.
How this helps promote juniors thru our Grade comp I am not sure, as teams are full of overseas and interstate players.
PS When West Torrens won the Triple Flags eight years ago we had 11 of the 12 players come thru the Juniors. I think I counted would be about 4 out of 12 in the current team. This to me is very sad, but shows clubs just don't want to get relegated

The uneven comp was always going to be unfair. If Glenelg got one of Uni or Adelaide as double up games then they be safe
Tony Clifton wrote:How are the double up games worked out?
Who would know, looks like no system at all
Last year, West Torrens had double up games against Kensington, Glenelg and Woodville.
This year they get Kensington and Glenelg again, plus Sturt.
No fairness at all!
Based on ladder position the previous year, I believe. 1,3,5,7 play each other as do 2,4,6,8 (or similar). Assume the D2 Premier and R/U are designated as 7 and 8 respectively.

LGIL - I hope your club is in the top 4 of Div 1 and playing finals this season and not languishing in the bottom half of Div 2, contributing nothing to SA cricket. Bays seem to be where Woodville were at several seasons ago with recruits / overseas taking up spots over local players and depth being an issue. Hopefully the loyal servants stay and help them get up to Div 1 (if they go down). Dont think they have seen much of Doggett, McSweeney and Conway in the 2 day stuff. Maybe those lads will stay like Manetti did at Adelaide. No matter who they played if they were good enough they would of beaten who was in front of them. Batters have been a bit light on with in terms of runs.

Highly likely Glenelg go down....unless winning outright against kensington.....that would have to be contrived if it happened But should be 1 up and 1 down......glenelg miles in front of northern who are 3rd in D2....commonsense prevails surely time to change the rules to 1 up and 1 down....simple
All sorted.....1 up and 1 down 7 x 2 day and 7 x 1 day Glenelg to stay up 1 day game....in last minor round game....to prevent dodgy declarations Not hard to see logic. But we're talking about the SACA.....blokes paid to do nothing.....the grade cricket committee who are gerryatrics But the 90 year olds....on the grade cricket committee.....will take to September to work this out 1 meeting....sorted.....easy

okay......its long been called the grade cricket committee.....if it has another title.....then so be it....you know what I mean and the group whatever they're called....they are all old....they all procrastinate......they love been seen and heard at meetings and they all take 6 months to get something done...... it's a job where nobody at any of the clubs wants to attend the meetings.....for fear of falling asleep..... so someone who loves meetings and loves to be heard and seen attends.....because nobody else wants to go
