You're being far too generous in counting travel days, though. Also, Brisbane is only a 2.5 hour flight, does she not go to the office after she lands?

Oh no, doesn't go in the office - she's too tired.. and instead of getting the early flight like most, she got the mid-morning flight so lands around 1pm, by the time she gets an uber and checks in to her hotel, day is all but done.

She also thinks she's entitled to "time off in lieu" for travelling

Poor little pumpkin, does she absolutely pillage the expense account?

Last time I traveled I submitted my receipts for my boss to approve and he said "I can't approve this, it's all beer and no food...................and it's for 1am when you're in seminars from 8am-4pm".

I replied with "The group leader paid for the meals, we had to get our own drinks, and I've been told to live like I would back at home and the company will pick up the expense".

It went through, it wasn't a ridiculous amount but if they're going to house me at the Bankstown Sports Club that has about 10 restaurants covering all cuisines, half a dozen bars and a mini casino then I see it as a "them" problem.

Yep, I've been struggling with it a bit as well. Last night I cracked it and went for an hour run, to try and get all the negative crap out of my head that has been keeping me awake.

Didn't really work...

On a serious note, have you tried journaling? Write down the crap that's in your head, you'd honestly be surprised.

F***, that would keep me up for 3 days straight writing it all down. I'm mentally shot atm and totally drained, dealing with a break-up that hasn't been accepted and heading a massive investigation in the workplace, hoping it comes to an end soon and I can concentrate on myself and my regular employment tasks.

Mate, I was one of the biggest sceptics getting around about this, thought it was all fluffy crap.

Happy to admit my mental health isn't the greatest at the minute, and one of the coping mechanisms that has been suggested by enough people is journaling.

I had no idea where to start, or what to write, until a friend suggested I start with picking a keyword, and trying to write down some bullet points.

Think I got maybe 20 words down for my first entry, but it made that particular topic in my head go away. Been ticking them off as they come to mind and get stuck in my head since then, I'm probably only a month or so in but each time I write down more and more, and becomes a little bit easier.

Only a small sample size but I reckon I may have been a bit wrong about it.

Travelling in work time and expecting time off in lieu?

Maybe the heating is better in the office than at home and that explains the increase in office time?

I don't doubt your process for a minute, seeing things in writing is one of the best forms of self awareness from a visual perspective and then it creates a flow on effect where you just add to it with ease.

Some days I'm fighting through til knock off with a brave face and a few jokes but then I get in my car to drive home and it hits me like a wrecking ball, gym or exercise plans go out the window and are exchanged with a few Peroni's and a punt on the dogs.

I had penciled in to begin a better regime as of this coming Sunday, I have been a lot better since last Friday and will continue to work on being the best version of myself.

I will trial your method.

I’m no expert but balance and perspective along with gratitude works for me
Drink, eat, work hard, go the gym or don’t do any of these things.
They say routine is best but I prefer the opposite.
Chaos keeps me sane
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

I'll always listen lads if you need an ear, flick me a pm and I'm happy to send you my number.

For me it's about what works for you at any given moment. If you need a beer in the corner of a pub you've never been into then do it. If you need to hit the gym or go for a walk along a familiar path then do it.

For blokes though we need to talk about it. Deep down inside I reckon we all know that letting it out, letting someone come in and give you some advice or just listen that's what works best.

Aint weak to speak.

Cheers mate, I'm the only one that can change things and I've been here before.

Although I've never understood what it really meant but I kind of got gaslighted amongst the break-up, she was trying to convince me things that I never said, it had me going insane second guessing myself but I knew I was right, the alleged comments were things that I just don't say...........ever, also got accused of messaging other women, I'm a very loyal person and an open book.

I'll be fine, getting on top of it all now, just a few big things all happened at the same time.

Appreciate it Boon, yeah, a 5 minute chat to let it all in sound is sometimes all that we need, unfortunately most of my close friends are women, I sort of kept my distance from them during my relationship due to someone used to get a bit jealous at the mention of another woman's name.

I've had a few chats lately though, my ex wife and I are still really good friends so it's good to get an honest unbiased opinion from her, we have a good laugh at ourselves too while we're at.

yeah, finding someone you are comfortable talking to, can sometimes be the hard bit

ive got lots of great friends, but sometimes i dont feel like i can talk to them for fear of their reaction, or not wanting to burden them with my small bs. gotta get past that in myself first i guess. (as usual, its all my fault, lol)

reading stuff on here though is always a help :) keep up the good support all

I was just about to post something similar, I recently took the plunge and utilised the work EAP (employee assistance program). I've found talking to a professional who's judgement free is a good place to start, and it's given me tools to talk to bring bits and pieces up to mates as well. I kinda want to keep it separate from my social life as I view time with the boys as a bit of escape and I want to enjoy myself as much as possible.

If your work offers this service, give it a go.

About 11 years ago I broke up with my wife, my dad died and then my step son died in a car accident all within a few months of each other, it was a titanic struggle to keep it together as I took sole custody of my 11 and 9 year old children.

Upon return to work after the 3rd devastation my GM called me into his office and told me that they will have a support person sitting in the board room from 10am-noon should I feel the need to utilize their service, I declined initially.

It got to about 10:45 and I felt bad that someone was just sitting in a room alone just incase I felt like talking to them so I went and introduced myself and wow, was I glad I did. The coping with loss mechanisms they explained to me I still use, by 12 o'clock I was a new person, I seen life in a different light and found the strength to face the world again with a smile on my face.

I'm not quite at that point now, during the investigation I've spent a lot of time with our HR manager and I'm able to open up to her about my personal life, she's really good to talk to, whenever we have work function s I end up chatting away with her for a while at some stage during the night, we've had similar experiences and the same views on a lot of things.

When I was young I was a pretty good sleeper until a motorbike crash (racing motocross) at 16 resulted in a very bad concussion & brain injury that years later doctors said was probably the start of my depression & anxiety issues. Have suffered chronic insomnia ever since & I know my brain doesn't operate normally.

I do fight the black dog a lot but my insomnia last night was from a herniated disc in my lower back & bad shoulders giving me hell. Back has been giving me problems for about a year & shoulders about 6 months now. Had the right shoulder cleaned out, tendons repaired & bursa removed (can't do anything with the arthritis though) about 4 years ago & felt great after that but has since turned to sh!t. I just couldn't get any sleep until about 4am. Then kept waking up from snoring.

I had insomnia real bad quite some time ago, sometimes I was going to work on Thursday when I hadn't slept since the Sunday night, TV on, TV off, soft music, forest sounds, beach sounds, my mind was going a million thoughts an hour.

A friend suggested buying a latex pillow, I thought it sounded silly but ahh what the heck. I never looked back, ended up buying 4 for myself and decked the kids out with the same, it was weird that something so simple could make such a difference.

Just a thought despite my insomnia was caused by something different to yours, chronic back pain would be less than fun.
