Siren. Bays kick 7 goals to 2 in the last to win by 14.

Bank the 2 points and move on.

South gallant in defeat, deserved better.

Bays 3 headed tall forward monster combine for 15 goals to snuff out the panthers…. Still the most potent forward line when it fires and still the premiership fav because of that….

Nice try... but yeh nah.
Sturt should have won last year but fell under pressure in Finals.
This year, there would be an inquest held if they do not take the Flag. Streets ahead of the comp....

^ this. Missed the minor premiership by a bee's dick, then bundled out of the finals thanks to two bad quarters. Biggest shot at a flag in the modern era went begging.

But back on topic, how about those Bays?

A shoot out in the end. I wonder when was the last time the Panfers kicked 15 goals and didn't win.

Plenty to like from a South perspective, but it did feel like an opportunity was squandered. Bays lifted when they needed to.

Momentum turned late in the second term with South heading to the sheds a couple of goals in front. Felt we failed to really capitalise on some Bays' turnovers after the break, with a lot of the play in our forward half. 22 points up before Hosie goaled after the siren.

3 goals inside 4 minutes to start the final stanza then had the locals in front. To South's credit they wrestled back the lead a few times, but a crucial free kick to McBean from a ruck contest saw the Bays retake the lead after 21 minutes, and they weren't headed after that.

Sam Skinner (huge game), Elliot Dunkin, Oliver Davis, Tom Barrett (4 goals), Finn Emile-brennan named best for South.

Had the rub of the green with the umps, although a few perhaps went the way of the home side in the final 20 minutes. Also..Hosie slightly came off his line to snap that goal mentioned above...is that not considered 'play on' or has that rule been relaxed?

Some light at the end of the tunnel these past 4-5 weeks after a pretty bleak period.

Summed it up really well.

I thought South deserved to win today, the difference was those 4 goals in 4 mins at the end of the 3rd and start of the last.

How South are 9th with only 3 wins based on today is bewildering.

been following sa footy for 60 years,
not sure Ive ever seen a player take a mark before the siren - the umpire signalling time,- the player then take 2-3 steps off his mark to improve his angle - the umpires signalling play on...hen take his kick and then goal......all clear...

Except that’s not what happened, I just watched it again to confirm.

Hosie was 2 steps back from the correct angle, so just took those 2 steps to kick across his body. If he lined up in a direct line and kicked straight without deviating, he would have kicked the ball from exactly the same spot.

Don’t listen to the uninformed excitement from Neil Cross, he had no idea what he was talking about.

Which raises the question whether you can step inside the line after the siren and take steps to get back onto the line in order to snap across the body?

No probs, that’s how I took it.

Go to the 7:00 min mark of the video and judge for yourself.

looking at the video and ignoring the commentary. the position in which Hose took the mark was almost on the line, so the umpire erred in the position in which hose took the kick for a start. Once the umpire lined him up for the kicj i was under the impression that the player was unable to deviate either side of the line after the siren to improve his angle.
In fact I have seen, on Previous occasions ,an umpire line up behind the player taking the kick to ensure he doesn't deviate off the line. The video quite clearly sees Hose take 2 steps to improve his angle.
The point that Summerton ( the player on the mark and I know this because i spoke to him post-game) makes to the umpire after the kick is.. that while Hose was taking the kick ..the umpire called "Play on!"...wtaf!!!
