Didn't something similar happen to Rysyck at North in 2018?
My memory is that he stayed at the club, and celebrated with his teammates, despite not being selected.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Leigh Ryswyk had a bad rib related injury which he incurred during the second last minor round game of the season at Norwood. Therefore, the Grand Final weekend was his first week back for 6 weeks. The selectors decided not to risk him, but instead played him in the Reserves. He was given a hero's reception back at the club on Grand Final night. It is ironic that Ryswyk played 232 games but missed out on a League premiership, whereas his replacement Jake Wohling finished with 9 league games, but one of them was a league flag.
As an aside Leigh Ryswyk and Clint Alleway have both been admitted to the Queensland Australian Football Hall of Fame. It's good to see that the SANFL is still recognised as an elite competition at least by Queensland.

And in 2002, Sturt captain Chris Threadgold wasn’t selected for the GF side.

In 2006, Eagles captain Gavin Colville missed out after failing a fitness test on the morning of the match. His replacement, Paul Stewart, lasted about 15 minutes on the ground before injuring his arm.

Not sure I’ve heard of a captain leaving though…

I think..................
Threadgold was captain and had been for 8 years
When he found out he had been dropped by Phillips, his father walked into the club and removed Chris' photo from the wall
He played for PAOC from then on and won a premiership in 2004 with plenty of old Sturt mates who joined him
He is now back at Sturt as Football Director

But I'm not sure if his photo was returned ...............

Another Captain who missed was in the 1997Grand Final , that being Gary McIntosh
He missed the final because he was suspended
I must admit I was concerned in the lead up to the game , but NW won easily

Looking forward to this one and the best news is either Sturt or Glenelg will lose the GF this year.

So no one forgets Mr Booney's post.
It is posted on the 24th anniversary of Phil Carman getting sacked by the Sturt Football Club.

Imagine a club going for a 3peat positioning itself so strongly as a rank outsider in a 2 horse race.

Not the club's stance.

Glenelg are the outsider, the betting shows it. The weight of tipping shows it. Strut only losing 1 game for the season shows it. Strut easily winning the Second Semi shows it. Glenelg losing their best defender shows it. Glenelg having to play 4 Finals shows it.

It doesn't make sense why you are so afraid to adopt being the favourite.

I’m not afraid to adopt the position of being favourites, we should be for all the reasons you mentioned.

My point is related to your fans adding the mayo on the underdog tag…. The clubs finest hour…
