The groundskeeper apparently told Cook on BBC last night that today would be worse to bat on than yesterday

It’d be hard to take his opinion seriously given what was dished up yesterday. No grounds man on the planet would want 20 wickets falling on day 1 of a test.
Of course but apparently it’s predicted to quicken up a bit today and then settle down by day 3.
The batsmen have been poor but it’s a pretty average pitch.
Says plenty though that for the new drop in pitch in Geelong they employed the Adelaide lads to do the job rather than this bloke who is only 30 minutes away

He did and just misjudged the line and length

NIGHTWATCHMAN
on this subject I dont really have an opinion
Last night was prob OK - coz if BOLAND gets out thats the end of the days play

But it did work
Jake Weatherald ends up batting at 3 instead of opening, and made his highest test score batting at 3

Agree with this. Weatherald is not up to it, should have played his last ever Test match. I doubt they will make a change and will give him one more match, but would rather they give Renshaw a go.

Even look to the future and give Kellaway a go, not something the Aussie selectors ever do, but he will be opening the next Ashes series in England so just put him in what is a dead rubber anyway.

Yeah, was always weird to pick a 31 year old bloke to open this series.
Kellaway may be opening next Ashes but before then we have some really tough series coming up and a lot of test cricket in that period so need to get it sorted

WEATHERALD
Only played 4 test matches
2 early to judge
Has played against decent attacks on mostly bowler friendly conditions
I would give him the last test and also into another series

From what Im seeing this MCG pitch looks about a 180 par score
So prob the batters so far have batted below par in the first digs

Where is all this Kellaway love coming from?

He is averaging 30 in the shield this season and that is heavily influenced by a score of 147 take that away and he's averaging less than 20.

Weatherald should play in Sydney and he deserves that test. No runs however and he probably loses his spot to Renshaw.

Marnus you’re batting on off and you’re hanging your bat on 5th stump line? Why

Could understand it (sort of) if you batting middle or middle and leg and hung the bat there
