SA Police said a person living at Oak Dam Station is now a suspect in the case of missing four-year-old Gus Lamont, who vanished from a remote station in the state’s Mid North in September last year.

Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke told a press conference in the city at 1pm today that police have now declared the case a major crime but Gus’s parents were not suspects in his disappearance.

“Family members have been cooperating with police and establishing the movements of Gus around the time he went missing,” Fielke said.

“As a result we have identified a number of inconsistencies and discrepancies with that information as it relates to timelines and the versions of events provided to us by the family members.

“As a result of those inconsistencies and investigations into them, a person who resides at Oak Park Station has withdrawn their support for the police and is no longer cooperating with us.”

This makes much more sense.

Having worked in and driven past this area many times, there's no way on earth you could approach an isolated station in a vehicle and not be noticed, so that would rule out him being taken.

Would have either been a tragic accident (like drowning in a dam or falling down a mine shaft), or an inside job. Sadly, it looks like the latter.

The fact it's taken this long for the police to change the direction of the investigation is the biggest surprise.

Back in October the story went around about the 'tranny granny' on the mums side and that they were most likely the problem.

But now it's taken til feb for the police to announce they now consider that the most likely scenario.

Fingers crossed they've always pursued that path, but just keep it under wraps.

Once all the statements were taken and discrepancies were identified they'd have checked and checked then gone back and spoken to those involved again before running it past the prosecutors and may have needed more, the recent searches of the property and the buildings checking the last of the boxes I reckon.

In a case like this they would have to be very confident of the path they take.

Powers that be have been trying to arsehole my state manager out the door for several months, it's been ugly to watch.

Over the last 3 months they've put a line of demarcation between sales and operations. I'm on the sales side.

Two big wigs from Melbourne are flying in in formation this morning to update the branch "In a town hall meeting for all staff". I've been told it doesn't impact sales, it does impact operations.

My guess, around 11am this morning the two from Melbourne are here to make my manager redundant and tell 8 factory staff they no longer have jobs.

What this means for me? I don't know.

Given they're air con / refrigeration they've had to park the process over the Xmas / peak summer period, got an email last week asking if I was still interested, I confirmed I was. My guess is they interviewed 4 or more and probably came back to 2 of us. Depending on todays happenings I'll call him on the way home.

Also have some thoughts on getting out of this altogether and getting into another field, 18 years of this industry might have been enough.
