HOT OFF THE PRESS!!!!!

The Pt Adelaide Enfield Council are giving very serious consideration to enclosing the Kilburn clubrooms with a high wire fence.

What about that, is it to keep the Africans out or the Kilburnites in?

Isn't that a bit different? Big issues with the African contingent living in the area, it's a public reserve so they cannot be refused access. Major headache for all concerned.

Watch this space for further details as they come to hand

Is that a joke? Do you mean the entire reserve or just the clubrooms. There's already a fence around the reserve and I can't see the point of having a fence around the clubrooms, they already have walls.

you might find Nth Adelaide U/19 & 17's using Kilburns oval this year or they might be doing it for the 2009 season.
Rumour that Nth Adelaide might use Kilburn oval in the coming seasons.................only a whisper that i heard.

Doubtful, they would use Greenies before Kilburn... with another upgrade of the building (which is in the works)

Norths 17s and 19s used our oval and the gym last year but hey are at Greenacres at the moment. Not sure what the arrangement was.

I think their league team used it the other year. However I think FC's right and they will be at Greenacres.

Andy, my understanding is the fence will be around the clubrooms and front paved area.

North's only used Kilburn because of the lights, will be getting their own at Yatala Acres

Andy #24 wrote:Nah, it's hard to get them involved because there are so many of them. One guy Danny played last year and he was very athletic. Obviously the way to get everyone happy is to integrate them but it's hard to put that many people who can't play into a football club.

Maybe the SANFL should send a crack team over to train them up.

Yeah thought they would have all the physical attributes, particularly height and endurance...

Maybe when the younger ones start coming through they will be very useful to the club.

thing about the west africans is they are very very athletic and tall..their ages are very rubbery tho as i believe when they land here they all get the same birthday!!..we had 5-6 play with our juniors last year and altho soccer is their main game they quickly caught on..in fact by the end of the year most were kicking better than the regular juniors..imo it is a real growth area for clubs if they can tap into the right areas of the community..i have no doubt within 10 years you will see a west african playing afl 8)

and hi-ho..if someone would post about another club maybe it would get discussed but atm kilburn is all anyone wants to chat about..

There's a fence that went up in the last couple of days from the side of the club room to the oval which encloses the paved area out the front. I think it has more to do with the fact that it's the only place you can smoke but needs to stay licensed. Only a metre high.

Kilburn milked the council well.
The council grant to build a new gym & clean up the club for the african community worked real well.
Now we'll erect a fence around the place to keep them out!

Fence doesn't keep them out any more than the door. Maybe Seaton should hit up their council for some money. May I suggest some grass for your oval and decent changerooms?

What has this got to do with Seaton Andy?
Kilburn don't mind taking the money to improve their premises.
Yet they havn't stuck to their promises, now excluding the African community that they were so desperately trying to help.

How does putting up a fence exclude anyone? Does your oval have a fence around it? Everyone still manages to use it. You have to go through a door to get to the gym anyway which prevents access much like a fence. I think Uniting Care or some such group was meant to organise for groups of the refugees to use the gym. Unfortuneately you can't just have everyone using it willy nilly because of insurance etc.

Why did your club ask for a grant????
Because they knew they could win the council over with some bullsh!t story that would help the African community, Knowing dam'n well it was only used to benefit there foofball club.
