Re: SAAFL Div 2 2008
I know of one bloke with a bit of a say that doesn't like sending players to Scotch. I think there is a bloke at Scotch that pushes it real hard.

Hey FC far to busy to spend time on here
keep an eye on it though. PHOS is a much of a muchness. Improvement will come from blokes that didn't play or didn't play much last year. Fair few outs though with Sandford retiring Baynes heading home and while not confirmed the Naish may have retired. Trainings ok reasonable numbers. Most important out is our head trainer went to Antarctica.

Thats not Ray Wright, is it ? I know he is/was involved out there somehow ?
How is Chris Griffiths looking on the track, if he has been out there ?

Yes that is Ray he is doing a 12 month stint with hopes of another 12 and then he reckons he's set up to retire or work part time.
The one night I saw Chris on the track he looked alright another couple of nights would probably help.

I used to deal with Ray through work a few years back, nice bloke.
Im sure you will see more of Griffo in the next few weeks - he would be priming himself for the big trial match, The Weed Cup, PHOS vs Portland !!!

It was good last year sure it will be just as enjoyable. I would expect him to poke his head out soon along with a couple of other stragglers.

Re: SAAFL Div 2 2008
so who are div 2 clubs playing in trial games.
smosh has port districts and sailsbury, been the same for the past few years. C and D grade have a trial vs shoc as well.

uni are starting a twice yearly (home and away) game v melbourne uni blacks (i think div 2 in amateurs there). being played at thebarton which should be good in early march and then i'd expect the a's and b's to have another on march 22 and 29. usually we play rocs.
the lower grades (c grade -div 7 down) are playing macclesfield at their ground then trying to set up something else for march 29 or april 6.
that c and d grade trial should be a good indication of how they go in c2 given that shoc's won the flag there last year.

Re: SAAFL Div 2 2008
Bandar, I suspect we're talking of the same bloke at Sturt who doesn't like sending players to Scotch which has developed primarily because of one bloke at Scotch who last year used a window of opportunity to tell a few potential recruits that were on the cusp of playing reserves football that Sturt endorsed Scotch as the preferred club if they weren't getting a game at Unley.bandar wrote:I know of one bloke with a bit of a say that doesn't like sending players to Scotch. I would doubt with the exception of Andrew Jarman and Gaza that any league football club would run the risk of alienating the other district clubs in it's zone for the sake of a player who can't get a game in their reserves and I understand there are a few clubs in North's zone voicing their displeasure at Jarman's ignorance to what value each club serves to a league club in the grand scheme of things. Any suggestion of a league club doing otherwise is nonsense.
Further to that and with all due respect to young blokes having a go at playing league football, what real benefit is a player to a Div 1/Div 2 A grade side that can't get a game with a reserves side. Granted there is always the odd one that slips through and does well but reserves footy isn't what it once was.

Re: SAAFL Div 2 2008
Good post Rotter I think if you could pick the eyes out of it you can still find some good players not quite up to reserves but they invariably have one particular flaw in their game. lack of pace or can't mark or whatever. I think with a bit of time an amatuer club can give them sometimes they can improve. Theres always the guys that slip through as well we had to ring and suggest to Glenelg they should have another look at James Vlatko and a few others at different clubs.

i know it's not really div 2 related but - c2 should be interesting with the 07 premiers in c1 (uni), c2 (shoc), & c3 (smosh) all meeting. i guess it reflects the overall strength of shoc & smosh.
