Fair observation and question FC, it has been an issue every year to a certain degree but what we are finding now is due to the cheaper cost of living in Adelaide as against Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth we are getting an extraordinary level of students coming to Adelaide to study, the problem with that is as I explained my earlier post. The Wine school in particular has increased it enrolements from Interstate and regional areas by about 35% if for no other reason than the quality of our South Australian Wine environment and the reduction of the available placements in the Wine studies in Melbourne & Sydney.

No Mercy, they are not excuses but very real objections we have to deal with every year. I understand every club has it's issues but these are ours.

Is this lack of commitment to teams and clubs any different to any suburban club or any industry for that matter. It may well be the very real answer is Uni can no longer compete in the increasing standard of financial rewards and the subsequent expected commitment level of Div 1 footy. If that is the case, we'll cop it and move on. At the end of the day our mandate is to provide an environment for blokes to enjoy their footy whatever grade it is and that is the real reason we have survived 100 years and not had to merge, default or otherwise to stay in Div 1.

A post or so ago you were only doubting our ability to compete in the finals this year and now we're off to Div 3. You No-Mercy need to see a shrink.

you have lost the plot mercy man. University and clubs like them and Broadies
are institutions of the League and should not be had a go at just because they
are so successful for so long. Bit of the tall poppy syndrome there Mercy.
Uni deserve to be back in D1, where they belong and all those stupid people
out there who slag them and the great sides like Broadies are just envious

This week alone the A grade had 7 first choice players that returned to one of Perth, Mildura, Swan Hill, Millicent, Waikerie and 2 from Mildura. What you might not understand is if these blokes stay at their respective boarding houses in St Marks,St Annes, Aquinas to name a few they have to pay premium "housing costs" during the holiday period. This is an issue we have to deal with every season and will do again in 8 weeks time with the next break.

Mate, I'll tell you right now Uni has not one good div 1 player from the university colleges. I don't think they have had a college boy that has played more than a handful of A grade games over the past few years. All the St Marks boys are jumped up C graders.

The good college boys are at other clubs. Walkies, Edwardstown, Kilburn and Scotch got the decent college players.

This lack of commitment goes for 80% of the clubs Unis, Colleges and suburban.

Geeeez GOD i've lost the plot!
I respect Uni's for what they have done in A1 for a number of years, a remarkable achievment to only be relegated once.
Why do they deserve to be back in Div1?
If they make the GF this year in Div2, well then they deserve to, if they don't, they don't.
Change your name to "Uni God" you envious one.

This I will agree with you No-Mercy. The only clubs that deserve to be in Div 1 are the 8 sides that won enough games the previous year and the 2 that played in the Div 2 Grand Final the year before. That said I half think that rewarding the "loser" of the grand final with promotion is a little generous but that argument is for another day.

watched Modbury and Edwardstown yesterday and it was a quality game of football.... both teams put plenty of pressure on eachother and although down at quarter time by 5 goals modbury was not playing like a team that should be that far behind. once they converted there chances 11 goals came very quick and edwardstown found it hard to qrestle back the momentum. unfotunatley an edwardstown player eather dislocated his ankle or broke his leg??? (can anyone say how he is) edwardstown rallied to get back to within 2 goals i believe but the hard working hawks thouroghly deserved there win.

Did anyone watch SMOSH v Uni???? i no alot had been said recently about school hollies etc and players missing. but surely the few out isnt a 50 point turn around for a team that was touted ad unbeatable(every one is beatable) against at team that prob will be middle table. how did uni play???

I was at the game and I think it was a good quality game with the better side on the day winning. But in the B grade it was a very one sided game, with smosh running away easily. Which was a surprise to many at the ground.
We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

I'm actually with No mercy on this one.

I find it ridiculous that uni holidays could be blamed for their poor start to the year.

At SMOSH we have 6 players in our A grade alone studying at Adelaide Uni. They can't have lost that many players from their first choice team. And if they have, they'd want to be pretty important players on their form from the weekend.

Having said that, fantastic result for us on the weekend in testing conditions (it was bloody hot!).

Good wins for Raggies and Modbury also. Very important game for us against SHOCS on friday. In a tight competition it's ever so improtant to get off to good start to the season, and a loss for either team leaves us behind the eight ball.

Lions on parade.

having guys studying at uni is different to having kids from the country living in the city for uni and going home for the break. most tend to prefer playing football at 'home' if its feasible but if they need to play in town they will, and get home every chance they can.

just a different view on things.

SO how many players in the blacks A grade had that exact situation?

And are they worth nine goals collectively?

Sounds like you've been beaten twice by better sides on the day.

Don't bother Turbo. Uni are grasping at straws making that excuse. I'd be surprised if it evenn affected their A grade, it would affect the lower grades a bit though. We played Kilburn on Saturday and they had 3 country boys who study at Uni in the As, two of them who live at colleges. They also had a few in the Bs. I know Walkerville have a lot of boys in the same situation. I haven't heard of those teams missing anybody. Even if players were missing it is demonstrative of a lack of committment.
