re hughes "keeping the comp alive"..Id prefer if he didnt..the players wouldnt be in HFL if not for $..so how is he helping???

That's just ignorant! Let's just all sit back in our comfy little nests and pretend that there's no progress and we can keep giving birth to future footballers?!??!

The reality is that some communities can't rely on local input to even produce a team, let alone a competitive one. Subsequently we get imports and once done, why not get good ones? As previously stated - all this does is give a kick up the bum to the rest of the comp to improve their respective positions.
Meadows juniors have developed extremely well but their emergence as SENIOR footballers is due to them being surrounded by quality players in the A's.

Of course Hughes is killing country footy, with his ego-driven hobby club. Him and all those who started waving coin around rather than allowing clubs to die a natural death when populations change in towns, or when the town's economy can't hold up a footy club anymore.

And there are some clubs who never should have been there in the first place. One only has to look at the scenario of the 3 clubs in Murray Bridge, one of whom was always dead or dying every year. I've never been able to see the point on turning country clubs into businesses where volunteers break their backs, because their kids play, only to see the same kids dart from one club to the other chasing $.

For clubs who can't field senior sides without massive cash injections and players from outside, I say accept that you cant and place the senior section of your club in recess. Keep your club alive by throwing all your resources into developing home-grown junior sides and start again. All hills towns are growing now and maybe in a few years we won't need the boys who want $500

And pigs might fly...................
Older, wiser and been there. But still love that grassroots country footy.

Never thought I would say this, but if Gazza can keep forking out the massive bucks he may just save a club, and that is not a bad thing. Problem is I doubt that this was ever his intention. Would be great Tex if he could just make a mild attempt at staying under the salary cap.

The Juniors there are coming along very well though, and if they are not borrowing kids from other clubs ? They may just survive life beyond Gary's Glitter. And what kid would not look up to the fine leadership of people like Battams !

No argument here, Dr. Very valid points. Don't get me wrong - I have NO admiration for the MAN but he has won 2 of the last 3 premierships in Country Div and, as you say, the club IS developing around his wealth. God forbid should he up and leave but then there's always Duane and Kirstin to belt out a few little cubs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kersbrook look like they WILL have a 'C' grade now, after Lobey told them that they have enough players. Kersbrook have by far the easiest first 4 rounds of the year in Gums, Cally, Maccy and Nairne.

Personal reasons is work related. Justin Carr has taken over, probably a mistake but else can you do at such short notice.

The Carr boys are sensational!
haha ill be out there playing for gums next year!

Not all crazy......Poor conditions will make it tight tomorrow....North Playing on a Saturday (i.e No Roger)......and couple out for the Brookers.....although Meadows would wanna turn around their recent poor form.

im still here seaess :D

i dont think laube is back at sturt seeing as he was at nairne training last night and is named to play on saturday????

I hope he has gone back down town to tell you the truth...
i told him when he told me that he was coming back to nairne that i thought it was a huge mistake and he should of stayed in town. To be playing the sort of footy he is at 16 i would expect him to be a chance of getting picked up in the draft in the next couple of years. No chance if he stays in the hills for too long...

Nairne v Gums this week im selecting Gums by 4 goal in the wet!! just kidding nairne by 10 goal +

Lee Hughes doubtful for tomorrow, but haven't heard yet if it's the season he'll miss.

How does Willy Sansbury go at Callington - heard some good reports about him but doesn't seem to be on many winning sides.
