As for MM votes i'm assuming it's Post War as the votes were different before that. I take a guess at Jim Deane.

Great Quiz Rog!! Wish I'd logged on earlier

EDIT : Just saw the clue on MM votes. I'll have a stab at John Cahill

Milde is not the ruckman

the last of the guys to top 50 goals that year is all I need. 4 SANFL premiership players among the five, and the last guy is famous for other reasons.

Paul Marrett never played in the 1976 GF. The tallest player was probably Greg Wild.

Five of those blokes who kicked 50 left. I'll offer:

Sally Saywell
Ken Whelan
Darrell Cahill
Stephen Copping
Bob Keddie

Really  He's listed in my very tattered 76 GF budget in the team profiles and I was just convinced that he played the game. Just shows you can't rely on a kid's memory then. Wild would be the man then, but he's nowhere near as memorable as Marrett.

As Westies had a reasonable 1976 I'm thinking Glynn Hewitt maybe one of the 50+ goalkickers.

Only one left then, who hadn't played in a premiership by 76, but would go on to, as well as a few other large roles in the game

No, he played in the 75 flag for us. This guy ended up with a few though, and a key role in an AFL flag too (you have to think about his key role however)
