Recruiting?
Interview?
Watching training?
Knows someone?

or was it something else?

Spoke to him last night after training and he said he was taking a gun u16 reynella lad for tour of crows rooms, watch training and meet Andrew Mcleod as the lad is indigenous and he wants the boy to focus on footy and make something of himself.

Good on him, great idea.

im sure there is some under the table dealings going on!
but $30 - $60 as a min and maximum payment is very short!
Hardly worth risking injury if it equals having days off work!

Some blokes just love playing footy and the incentive of success obviously outweighs a few extra bucks that no doubt a lot of these blokes could chase..
Plus doesn't every bloke around Australia take the risk every week, you start thinkin like that and you may as well give up footy!

Footy is not about money, the key is enjoying the game with a buch of blokes you would spill blood for but when country clubs offer around $300 a gig lets be honest hard to deny! Good point though big red!! =D>

Good point catfish as we all wish blokes would play for the jumper, comradeship and the love of the club but we have to be realistic quality players now command good money in most leauges metro and country and to be competitive clubs in general will pay.

if this is true what fly said, what a fantastic idea and just proves my previous post about him. i know he thinks about a lot more than the outcome of one game.

So where is the weekly upset coming from this week?

Porties vs Emus - we often struggle down on this ground as its usually hit with gale force wins, but am hoping we should be ok.
Bushpigs vs Reynella - i still think Reynella have enough quality players to be a contender, but the Bushpigs are on the up (despite last week) so Reynella better have woken up by now!
Shoes vs Brighton - Brighton well and truly on a roll, Noarlunga will need a huge effort to pull off another upset, but obviously they can do it.
Aldinga vs Cove - Cove too good, heck i havent tipped a home team yet.
Happy Valley vs Lonsdale - Vikings to be well too good for the Lions, who must wish they play the Emus every week as they looked good against us but have struggled since.
Marion vs Christies - Marion to be too good at home
Twisties vs Hackham - The Twisties to bring home the biscuits playing at home at the pastie, leaving Hackham still hungry for the first win. Im off to lunch.
Gaelic Football - Funny name, SERIOUS GAME!

You are not listening Jono.... As has i have already stated Lions not happy with the 2008 season or saturdays game. Our best is pretty good as the win against Marion and honourable loss to emu's shows but depth is a major concern. We have fielded 68 players in seniors this season yet we are struggling to fill 2 sides. Saturday will be a major struggle to put a reserves team on the park.

On the oval we still have 13 years to run on the lease so as far as we are concerned we will remain there and it actually could be a blessing in disguise. Time will tell.......

Lion Heart, the lease seems like it set in stone but what happens to the changerooms when the school is closed? Will lonnie have to come to some sort of agreement with the council to get new rooms built? Also, once the school is gone, do you guys have permission to put a fence around the oval?

I will try again. Everyone wants what is best for there club but material things are just that. what makes a club is its people! people with a vision for the future of there club that comes from hard work and a strong enthuses on a juniour programme, something that Lonsdale have not had for too long and without it you will become extinct(harsh but true) You only have to look at the successfull clubs m/vale h/valley Brighton strong juniour programmes with a vision from PEOPLE that have a common goal and vision.

Lonsdale have tried each and every year for the past few years to get 14s and 16s but because they only manage to acquire maybe half a side it then forces those kids to go elsewhere, and as has happened in the recent past, they don't get those kids back..
What can you do right, as i've heard so often on here, you can't make a kid play footy for your club, unfortunately they all want to play with friends and those friends happen to be at m/vale, h/valley, brighton, pretty much anyone with a few teams in each junior grade.
I hear of this great junior programme over and over but can anyone actually shed light on what this entails? Maybe Lonnie could learn a thing or two..?

Maybe you aren't seeing it, but it certainly is happening at Lonsdale. A few extra sets of hands wouldn't go astray, but there are people putting in 5 or 6 days/nights a week working with the juniors and trying to encourage more to the club. After the merger the focus was probably too heavily on making sure the senior side of the club came together well, and the juniors fell away because of that. Over the last 3 years the juniors have basically been rebuilt from scratch, and yes it's taken a hell of a lot of work with a hell of a lot yet to come. Lonsdale will continue to face a reasonably high turnover of juniors as kids decide that losing isn't much fun and they'd rather play in a winning team elsewhere or in a different sport. This just means they'll have to do more to attract kids, build competitive teams and make the whole club football experience enjoyable enough to overcome the current negatives.

Duly noted champ..
I think you'll find there's too few putting in the 'Hard Work' and thus finds themselves up a certain creek without a paddle. But as you said, things don't happen overnight, so i'm sure it's not all doom and gloom at the Lions Den.

Speaking of Doom and Gloom has anything been put forward to the council about some real lights at the ground?

A dimly lit wing isn't enough to train properly on or attract any potential juniors. Parents have a huge say in where a kid will play and seeing a less than ideal set up probably doesn't fill them with a great deal of hope their child will enjoy their time there.

There are new lights (still only one side of the oval though) in place, but they weren't wired up as the club was unsure of what the school closing meant for them. Now that they know they will be staying there the wiring is being scheduled.
