After last years GF defeat I decided to head to Vatican City to seek a higher meaning and to find the answer to how a bunch of pussy foots could manage to win 4 premierships in a row....with the Papal visit I find myself back and look forward to the 2nd half of the season.....the Bombers are just starting the same run as last year but may be a touch better prepared....write these boys off at your own peril....I certainly look forward to playing the prelim specialists in HV, Cove and Reynella!!!!!. The mere thought of pressure football send shivers down their spineless backs......[/quote]

Ah Hotdogs, wasting no time in nailing your colours to the wall with an outrageous post slamming the current premiers and majority of contenders - excellent stuff and just what this boring Friday needs IMHO!

So in your overseas visit to the pope (you know he's in Sydney now right?) did he show you the way to make up the 10 goals Emus pasted you by in round 2? Who's gonna be "the saviour" up forward to kick the sausage rolls for the turtle neck wearing 1 bedroom villa residing Brighton Districts Old Scholars?

I'd say they've been looking to Big Tom Hoare, who in previous years was more likely to eat sausage rolls than kick them.

To his credit though have seen him recently and he's dropped a lot of weight and looks to be working well for him in his footy. Good luck to him but I'll be happy to see Smithy give him a bath in a few weeks time to dent his confidence.

Cove to missing players tomorrow however, fielding a very strong line up still...Think there was something like 7 changes from there side last week!!!! And in discussion with couple players up there...5 Very good A graders out who will be back in the coming weeks ready for finals... As for the age of sides, it's senior footy it's open age, what i reckon needs to be looked at is games played at the level not so much the age.... I know Cove have a A grade squad with average age around 24 - 25 but a lot of them are now either into there hundreds for games played or around 50...Also 6 -7 1st or 2nd year senior players in Coves side...They have a really good mix however as we all know only time will tell!!!

Good call Jono,we have an average age of 20,but most have only tasted senior footy this year. Give a couple of years and some support and will be quality senior players. Again look forward to seeing the top side in action!!! at this point I believe Brighton to be the best side seen this year. :D

Im also heading to the Cove tomorrow to watch the cobras in action.

Who are the players to watch other than Reavills, Vick and Ramsay?

There is no substitute for knowing how to win finals and play that higher standard and pressure football, MV still the team to beat and I didnt believe what ZC said to be arrogant, more confident of Smithys ability (and rightly so).

Schyneider real good for a first year player out of 18's.
Heath zones off opponent, but finds plenty of it out of a back pocket.

Sam Jora back for MV this week my mail....

The cricket club were quite happy to build and fund a shelter 30 metres wide on the outer wing immediately next to the timekeepers box next to the small dugout, but were denied due to "other sports" at the ground unwilling to fork out $1500 to pay their share as they deemed it as uneccesary.

The location of the current rooms IS a problem but can't be avoided.
Council were quite willing to bulldoze and rebuild years ago but way too much asbestos means that no-one will work on it, nor wil the council allow people to work on it.
Unfortunately, Porties clubrooms was the 2nd built in the area, can't remember the 1st, but with a little foresight they could've learnt from other clubs back then and built the clubrooms near the boundary.
So it is an issue that has been addressed, the clubrooms can not be moved or rebuilt, more adequate all year round shelter has been proposed and building permission accepted by the PNCC and the Onka Council, but as mentioned above,,,, others don't want to spend $1500 towards a $10000 project to make the idea happen.

What about applying for a Council grant? Each year they ask for reports from sporting clubs on what projects they want to do and offer grants to help out. Porties should look into that I think a verandah would be great along the boundary there, the oval is great just little things like that can make a huge difference. Can imagine it built in with a fire place and chimney in the middle, would be great in the winter cos its far away enough from the club to have a small fire.

And Cyclops the argument wasn't about turn over on ovals or durability of the ovals but some good points. I still have to say the Emu oval is absolutely terrible and Im sure most people would agree.

Did that Rodney,,, as mentioned above, out of the $10000 needed to build it the council were willing to put $4k towards it, the cricket club were putting $4500 and building it and all that was needed was $1500 from "the other sporting club" to complete the project.
