It is basically impossible to answer this question as
1) the definition of "born-again" is not clear and varies between churches
2) many people change their church connections and involvement over their life, so what you heard a few years ago may not be correct today
3) many people are private about their beliefs

Anyway, some comments...

I am fairly sure John Halbert wouldn't describe himself as a "born-again" Christian (very few Lutherans would...)

Adam Crouch is studying to become a Catholic Priest (he was on TV during the Pope's recent visit to Sydney)
Jared Crouch was also an "ambassador" for World Youth Day, and Tim Davis (former North, Centrals player) was also very involved in the planning of the event.

Rob Paech is currently the Pastor at a Lutheran church in Brisbane.
There were approximately 20 Lutheran ministers who played SANFL League football between the 1940s and 1960s (mostly for Sturt and West).
John Olsen, June 2012 wrote:"Reserves teams in the SANFL for the two AFL clubs is not negotiable.
We will not compromise the SANFL competition (with AFL reserves teams)."

You said that better than I did Ecky, I thought it wasn't really possible to indentify the "born-again" aspect.

Five or six years ago my mother gave me some old Sturt memorabilia she found when having a clean out. Some of it was from the late 40's and early 50's when she was a member of the club. Other bits were from the golden era of the late 60's One of the interesting items was a photo of the 1967 premiership side signed by all the players. Both the siganatures of Keith Chessell and Brenton Adcock were followed by "John XXIII". I recall both players in the latter stages of their careers refusing to play internal trials held on a Sunday.

I no longer have the stuff, I passed it on to a person who was on the Sturt committee at the time.

Trevor Reu who played for Westies was a Lutheran Pastor at my old church, Trinity Lutheran - Pasadena. This is the church that John Halbert also attended.

Was it Alan Calyun?

Also Pfitzner from West Adelaide in the 1960s and Renner from North Adelaide, who playedin the 1952 NAFC premiership were both Lutheran ministers.

Chris Radbone from Sturt was very devout.

Pastor Ian Kleinig (Sturt) was one of them, he was my U15 and U17 coach, affectionately refered to as "Pastie" by the juniors he reminded me a lot of Jack Oatey.
His wife was also my English teacher, it was very embarrasing rocking up to training the afternoon after I threw a chair at her in class

Mick Beech, West Adelaide, is a very committed Catholic.
I'm not sure whether his son Johno follows the same path.
