Modbury looked quite flat. Top spot sown up are they loading on the training?

Smart coaching if they are. I reckon top spot in the Amateurs is a hindrance more than an advantage. Pretty hard to keep blokes focused only playing 2 games including a GF if they went straight through. In an ideal world 2nd is a good way through to the end IMHO

Great work by Athelstone today, i wrote them off & went for my favourite side SMOSH  in an upset, i did think it was a stupid thing to do & rightly so SMOSH proved they are definately ready for relegation to Div3. Bad luck lads all the faith i showed in you blokes proved a waist of time, i thought Athelstone were bad last week. What the hell got in to me to pick SMOSSHHHH? i did say i was ILL though!
One game i was proved right was the mighty Pembrokes beating Uni, a different side at the school arn't they?
The other was Edwardstown upsetting SHOC, oh it is getting closer to finals though!
Do Modbury think their certainty's? Well alot were talking of them going through the season undefeated & they have now lost 3, it may be a sign of thinking too far ahead.
Scotch proved they are the 2nd worse club in the comp getting smashed by PNU.

Sacred Hearts record against the other top four teams [Mod, PHOS & Towns] is far from good, 1 win and 5 losses. I wouldn't class Edwardstown's win yesterday as an 'upset' as they have now strung together 6 or 7 in a row...

correct Jayne they have lost to modbury and phos twice, hoever by pretty close margins except for Modbry @ Modbury which was about 7 goals. Dont think they struggle in finals though NM, they have only played 1 finals game in the last few years!

I have hardly said anything all year but can i say how good it was for me to see Smosh drop to second to bottom... Lets hope Pembroke hold there position.
As a Athelstone supporter the crap i use to hear last year on this site from the smosh players/ supporters. Its fantastic to win a flag but to be relegated the following year what a joke. Yes they will be a dominent side in Div 3 next year but what a wasted year.

Cruzn9 u still seem to be upset by last years smashing in the GF, yes it is disappointing that we will go down but its more disappointing that with all the money your club throws around u still couldn make the 5 but with another dip into the never ending vault im sure you will top up your squad from this year and be in div1 soon, michael wilson is retiring from port.. why not have a crack.. i wish we could have had some of your coin so we could entice old scholars back to the club like Derek Clarke and Ryan Sampson from districts. Just dont be so quick to bag a club that doesnt have the cash to throw around and mainly relies on old scholars to play

You Don't hear from me? I still contribute a fair bit don't I? I haven't been playing so i haven't commented on the matches much as i've been too drunk to recall them recently.

Our season has been shit-house. We haven't had much luck and we've played crap footy. Its probally likely we'll get relelagted but until the sirens goes in two weeks we'll still keep playing as hard as we can.

As the scotsman said, We'd love to have coin to throw at old scholars but we just don't. At least it means the people who play at our club are there for the right reasons.

Oh well, viva le smosh on saturday night.

How's that any different from most clubs in the higher grade competitions though?

I bet the ratio of home grown players is higher in clubs in the lower grades because they don't have the money to spend on recruits ad that's why they don't move up the grades.

What point are you making?

well after watching both raggies games last sat, think they do a great job setting up match day with music and the presentation of the club, it is just a shame there B grade umpire was swearing at players while game is on and even told a Raggies supporter to shut The F up and also sticking his finger up at the other umpire and supporters. The same person continued during the A grade and worse seen laughing and joking about some of the shocking decisions he made while umpiring. not very classy. That was the only negative thing on saturday.
We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

Just looking at last Saturdays A grade side...

11 Blake, Aaron - Raggies junior
5-int Carr, Stephen - Coach
16-int Cini, Jeremy - lived locally and played at club since 1997
13 Duigan, Joseph - junior and played since 2001
14 Griffin, Kyle - moved to Adelaide from the country
3 Grossmann, Malcolm - played at Raggies since 1999
20-int Harkin, Steven - junior
7(c) Hopper, Kevin - didn't start playing footy until 1999 when he joined us (basketballer)
17 Jarmyn, Paul - junior
19 Lomman, Ben - basketballer turned footballer, his father played 344 games for the Raggies
1 Platten, Jonathon - recruited from Hectorville, not a money thing, opportunity to play higher grade
6 Pokarier, Anthony - recruited from Modbury, was disgruntled there
4 Roberts, Ryan - junior
15 Sheedy, Justin - Ben Lomman brother-in-law or similar
24(vc) Skurrie, Ben - from Lockleys, came to the club of own accord in 1998
9 Sullivan, Scott - junior
26 Waldon, Adam - junior
10 Westergreen, Andrew - came to club from Tasmania in 2002
23 Willment, Steven - junior who came back to club in 2005
8 Woolford, Timothy - junior
25 Zanker, Brian - assistant coach and came with Carry

There are also a lot of juniors in our other 3 sides. I think the above is pretty reasonable.

Also other juniors to play A grade this year are Tom Allen, Sean Williams, Jason Chigwidden, John La Bella, Luke Stewart

Hey cruzn9, dont think you want to be talking about wasted years coming from raggie town. Been dominant side in your division for 3-4 years running without winning a flag. Finishing Top of the table and choking come finals time. They are wasted years. You dont get an opportunity to win flags very often and you guys missed the boat. Would have been a good night back at the club last year chairing around your B grade.
