This thread is not about players who retired pre-maturely (e.g. John Marriott), and not talking about players who also had league careers elsewhere, but about those players we only saw for a brief moment, made an impact, and years later we ask "whatever happen to ...."?

I got the idea from another thread where the name Richard Anderson was raised. He began at Norwood in 1986, played 22 games and showed a lot of promise as a quick, highly skilled long kicking rover. He went missing in 1987, then returned to Norwood in 1988 playing another 28 games, winning the club's Best & Fairest award, and also playing for South Australia.

He played only 2 more games in 1989 and we never saw him again. A very good player who should have played a lot more league football than he did.

Every club would have players such as this, so I'd like to see them listed.

Always wondered what became of Joe Ahmat at Norwood. Arrived in 1983, from memory, kicked 5 goals against Central (again from memory), played a handful of games and disappeared.

Always wondered what became of Joe Ahmat at Norwood. Arrived in 1983, from memory, kicked 5 goals against Central (again from memory), played a handful of games and disappeared.

He went to the WAFL where he played 55 games for Swan Districts and another 27 for Claremont. Those 5 goals he kicked on debut was against Glenelg at Football Park on Anzac Day, 1983. Played only 6 games, 8 goals for Norwood in 1983, his final match being against Richmond at VFL Park in the Sterling Cup.

Richard Anderson - was a teacher I think and spent most of his time at Port Pirie, other than the brief periods Norwood got him to Adelaide, and he was a super player.

- John Clarke. Burst onto the scene from Darwin, played state footy and then wrecked a knee. Don't reckon he got to 40 games, after his first 20 off a back flank were sensational.
- Richard Neagle. Kicked six in a flag and then his study took over.
- Nick Walker. Decided to become a great winemaker (he actually listed that as his career goal in one of the budgets from the 80 finals when he was carrying our very very thin ruck division)

As in O'leary Walker fame? If so a very good winemaker.

Remember watching him kick 5 goals versus Port in a game we won by 5 goals.

Very smooth kick on the run, similar to David Marshall.

Paul Chapman from the Eagles played some very good footy in 1993 and early 1994 and was being touted as an AFL player, but hardly played for the Eagles after 94

I recall a Sturt player from the early 80s named Magarey who played well until he had a job trnasfer to Darwin. And while not quite in this category, Port's Peter Crerar looked a very promising player until a series of serious knee injuries ended his career.

I also have wondered what happened to Tom Thorn (West 70s) and how many games did he actually play for West.
He was sensational!

Paul Chapman from the Eagles played some very good footy in 1993 and early 1994 and was being touted as an AFL player, but hardly played for the Eagles after 94

I thought he was recruited

I know he was still running around in the Amateurs as recently as a couple of seasons ago.. played for Pulteney and Walkerville.

Not that I recall, thought it was only about 3 years but could be wrong ... Would be amazed if he cracked the 100 ... Cue AH or Spelly

I thought Tim McNeil had a fairly long career with the Redlegs?

Played 56 games in 1987 & 1988, looked a real star, but then got injured. Came back in 1991 but only played a further 6 games.

James Weeding was recruited from St.Kilda, and wwnt to Hawthorn in 1991.

Ashley Reade was recruited from Victoria and returned home after 2 seasons.

I reckon he would have been AFL bound for sure ... Good kick, particularly reliable near goal, good hands and excellent pace.

Shane Tipuamantamerri went to WA and (I think) is still playing WAFL with South Fremantle. He was up to the end of 2007 anyway.

Don't know much about Tom Thorn except he only played 24 games, 59 goals for West Adelaide from 1980 to 1982. Was recruited from Swan Districts (WAFL) so maybe he returned to WA.
