my vote for tough would be smithy from emus. top bloke calm collected solid and you wont get a kick. absolute domination

I have no idea these days, but having played the majority of my footy in B Grade, I always remember Ryan Mashford (hope the name is correct!) from Porties being real hard at the ball.

Darren Mason is a brick outhouse and in the Saints guernsey looks like some of those St Kilda knucklemen from the 60's and 70's such as Cowboy Neale. I wouldn't call him a dirty player unless someone has really upset him. The blokes to really admire are tough guys who are also frontline players such as Fishlock, Gaskin and someone like Sutton from Valley.

Then there are the loose cannons such as the Joralafsky Bros, McKenzie, Manhood, Smith (Morphy Park) which the more appropraite word is dangerous.

From the Bombers, Toddy J gets belted every week and just ignores it, keeps his eyes on the ball and plays super footy. Kingy and Tucker both have a bit of mongrel in them but put their bodies on the line every week and get as good as they give.

My all time favourite Bomber tough guys are Dale Betterman and Dion Draper. Betterman looked like Mr Nice Guy but was as hard as they come and Dion had most opponents psyched out before the first bounce. All other clubs thought he was a dirty mongrel but he was actually more bark than bite, however he never took a backward step when it got willing. One of my great memories was when he shaped up to Mal Lee in the 2002 GF. He knew that Mal was bigger and stronger but Mal had just taken out one of our kids and Dion had to make a stand for the team.

mal lee is a pussy cat maso smashed him at hackam one day for his cheap shots at our ruckmen he couldnt beat eventhough he was 4 inches taller

yeh he is a big boy i remember playing with his brothers at the bay and he was a squirt not now but he is better than his bro now

i think someone said craig is doing a league pre season this year not sure who said it but look forward to seeing the brother if hed beat craig

in all seariousness, probably have to go with J. GASKIN (starter motor) to represent the emus!!
HARD as they come, a CU.T to play against, handle himself pretty well and he'll destroy ya all over the field. Have to say tho could never be labelled as a DIRTY player. Depends on how you define TOUGH??

yeah heard it from him last week, good luck to him... he's prettyTOUGH so it shouldnt be a problem for him.

Adam Widdison was the toughest, angriest man ever to play on the fields of the SFL - well atleast from the other end of the oval he was. Only man I know who would get beaten up by an under 14 with ease.

I have to agree with you BtP.

I have seen many players over many years and he's the best i've seen by far.

Even at his age (he turned 40 last month) his ability to absorb punishment is astounding and his attack on the ball or body totally fearless.
