Heard Paul Evans (ex-Pt Adel Magpie/Power full forward and SHOC old scholar) helping out. Assistant coach, I think.

Yes massive shoes to fill if he leaves. Dont think he'll be going to Norwood though to play reserves.

Not a go at u RRR by any means but read with interest on Norwood thread this week that Juniper at Norwood. Are you suggesting that he will not be good enough to play A's. I don't know, I have no contacts or interest........ just adding to the discussion. If he doesn't make the A grade will he go back to SHOC or would he stick it out with the Resies and see what happens?

I think he could easily play League footy. But yeah if he doesnt crack the Norwood side I wouldn't think he'll bother sitting in the 2s if he cant see a future there next year. Norwood have recruited well so will be a tough side to crack. He is only 21 and talent wise way above SAAFL level, but we'll see how he goes at League level with the extra committment.

Gepps have been the biggest rorters of the salary cap ever

Original post by The Stag on HFL Country thread.

You base this statement on what Shrek? Actual knowledge of the club or heresay. How come Kilburn didn't get a mention?..

quote="aceman"][quote="The Stag"]For Christ's sake Ace! Gepps have been the biggest rorters of the salary cap ever, perhaps only surpassed by Salisbury North!
Stag, your statement about Gepps & Salisbury North only adds to your lack of knowledge about the English language.

Stop and think about what you have written, if Salis. North have maybe surpassed Gepps, how can you classify Gepps as the "biggest rorters of the salary cap"?
An 'oxymoron' my friend, a bit like the guy who penned the post.
Now that is just plain dumb, don't you think?

If 80% of SAAFL clubs claimed to be going by the salary cap I would think they would be pissing down your back and telling you it's rain. It's more rife than you think, there would not be many clubs spending under $6-700 a week on players and awards even at country level......

Not sure about a Club changing it's name after so many years and so many past players. As a past player myself (juniors) and mixing with the Cearns's the Sachse's the Hoadleys the Weavers etc etc I think they maybe losing a fair bit of history in changing their name at a time they are pretty successful as they are. Any other Gepps X people have a view?

Certainly not, a possible point for discussion.

Herein lies the issue. The Footscray Football Club changed to the Western Bulldogs for commercial reasons, sure it upset some people but assisted them financially with more people embracing the club and helping their overall viability.

A point that is currently being discussed is something similar but let me hilight it is DISCUSSION ONLY to ascertain what benefits there may or may not be.

Hurdle #1 Past players/officials that feel offended at such a thought
Hurdle #2 The majority of these people NEVER attend the club any more for whatever reason.
Hurdle #3 The majority of those who do attend offer no assistance in any way except for "bagging" those who do the work
Hurdle #4 It's been 10 years since any more than one "past player" has been on a committee.
Hurdle #5 At this years AGM, 6 people turned up, not 1 past player or official.

That's a brief rundown on the issues we are facing, it's all getting too hard for those of us who give our time freely to be castigated for what we do, then when a discussion over a beer is taken completely out of context and spread to these past players/committee people, all hell breaks loose.

Nothing can or would be done without consultation and it's very much like the boy with the barrow, it's pushing sh*t up hill.

Questions are welcome, comments are for you to make.

Aceman I have to say I am disappointed to hear that the past players don't support the Club anymore. I have lived interstate for just on 10 years now and now back will make an effort to see some games this year and hopefully catch up with some old timers regardless of the Clubs name.

Royce, you'd want to make a firm booking with whoever they may be, they don't come out in the winter, if it's too hot or too windy or unless there's free beer.
By the way, they'd expect a reminder text message at noon and a Cab Charge as well.

Good luck!!! ;)

There are plenty of different points of view regarding this issue.
1) The club is not located at Gepps Cross, but then, where is the suburb of GAZA?, Modbury is actually at Ridgehaven etc, etc.
2) Is Gepps Cross a suburban growth area? No, it's mainly industrial. With Northgate and Lightsview swallowing up the area around the Rams with young families a change of name would benefit the juniors.
3) Clearly very few past players support the Club anyway.
4) If the name was to change then acknowledgement of the history with GCFC on the jumper would be appropriate.
BUT,
I believe plans are in place for a major community sports complex at, you guessed it, Gepps Cross near the proposed Super School. Maybe the juniors could expand to that complex eventually as we are very short of space at Duncan Fraser with 20+ teams and Auskick all competing for space.

Now wouldn't that throw a cat in with the pidgeons!

Those who want to be called Gepps Cross based at the new complex, those who want to be called Northgate based at the existing facil;ity.

Sounds exciting, kids numbers no problem, enough interested people to run the 2 alternatives, major problem.

Ah but wait, I hear all the missing past players/committee people and others are coming back to save the day.

Halleluljah friends, we are all saved.
Now that is just plain dumb, don't you think?
