Around another 5 around 21 (myself included) and some old heads. 5 players made their senior debut as well. Edwardstown were 3rd in Div 2 in SAAFL last year. They have a good running game, good structure. Obviously Hackham arent up to their standard so why lay into us when we're down. Wanker.

Good to hear HH3 we too have a young group with 12 lads under 21 that played Sat and an average age of 21yrs 19 days that played on the weekend.
Age is no excuse for poor performance it just gives the young ones more time to improve and we expect our youth to stand up when required!!!

I wasnt using it as an excuse. I was just saying having your introduction to senior football playing a team that would be the top rated team in Div 2 if they stayed is a pretty hard ask.

Unfortunately i think it will be an all too familiar sight. Yes, im sure there was some extra enthusiasm and a little improvement on some results last year. However it was round 1, beautiful weather and nearly everyone was available. What will happen when it gets cold, wet and there are a few injuries? Im afraid the likes of brighton, cove and morphett vale will nudge 60 goals again when theyre time comes. Good luck for the year though.

Neither Cove nor Morphett got anywhere near 60 last year. Forties were about the best anyone could muster against them (and there were only a couple of those).
The one exception was the week of upheaval when the Kelly's quit, and Brighton sunk the only 60 that has been booted against them since 2007.
They were at least a twenty-five goal better side in 2008 than they were in 2007. Holding Edwardstown below 40 suggest to me they are at least holding that ground.

and also with the likes of these teams we got a score on the board ourselves. and last week we had about 3 or 4 missing. not that it makes a huge difference, but around the ball where you under 20's bodies around the ball is a lot different to the likes of your 21-25 year old seasoned senior bodies. we are not going into any game disolussioned we know there is a massive task ahead of us, and unlike previous years we have the right people steering us in the right direction.

of course there was enthusiasm out there. it was round 1 after a long pre season. and when it gets cold and wet it will be the same routine, you get out on the track and ready to start training at 6:30 like all the other clubs in the area.

personally i think edwardstown will just about beat every side in the SFL and comfortably. maybe morphett vale/cove etc should be looking over their shoulders at townies and not worring about beating hackham by 30 goals/60 goals whatever the score will be.

i totally agree. they are a big, running and skilfull side. if you were going to pick at there game (not much to pick at though) they might be a bit soft around the hard ball going up against the likes of cove and the emus. but they will all be very interesting and high scoring affairs.

Townies EVEN have a player who was extremely unlucky not to be picked up in the AFL draft last year, P.Munce

Thats exactly right. I like you BTP. You know your stuff and have the facts to back up your points.

If we can improve by another 5 to 10 goals on last year it will be worth it. And that may mean a couple of wins if thats the case because we lost to Aldinga and Lonsdale by less than 5 goals early in 2008.

exactly right guys. nobody expects hackham to turn it around in 1 year. to think that hackham (or aldinga!!) will push teams like townies, morphies, cove etc.... to the brink of defeat is stupid. no disrespect intended to hackham, but we know they arent contenders, and we dont expect miracles. but as HH3 just mentioned, if they can improve on most scores by 5 or 10 goals its MORE than worth it!

so, keeping in mind that i'm from (probably) their biggest rival club, how about everyone gets off hackham's back, realise that its probably a 3-5 year plan, and let them go about their business of trying to improve week-in week-out. i promise you that we wont be taking them lightly, thinking that we've got an easy win when we come up against them will only result in tears from the black and gold faithful!!

Surely this is a joke? Is it the same P.Munce that couldn't get a game in south's reserves?

Exactly, Patrol ---- I went looking for the first round today but nothing there
I need it by this week. I'll probably end up begging the SFL for the details, and even then I'm not confident I'll get them.
Noticed the Under-14 leading goalkickers still have that lad kicking all 14 of his side's 14 goals. (a member of the club has assured me that didn't happen) What's the bet the list stays unchanged for weeks, maybe even all year ?

Fixtures were done a couple of weeks ago, but Noarlunga this week entered a second u16 side meaning an adjustment to the fixture this week. Not totally SFL fault

Hey Vics01
Thats right Noarlunga added another team, but I had been given the draw with Noarlunga under 14's & 16's in on Wednesday night, so why can't and hasn't the SFL place it on the WEBSITE :?
