Emus are as surprised as anyone to still have Smithers playing with them. Had virtually written him off for the season as they thought he would be a certainty for 2's at least.
I find it hard to think that Farrier could play League footy! Then Smith the second best defender in the SFL cant even make the 2s.
Used to love standing farrier as an old forward new i could have a big day! Not with smith! Crazy!
How can you compare why Faz is getting a game and not Smithy? Smithy is a superb defender in the SFL and I would love to have him in my team anyday. His tough style of play suits the slower/body type of country footy. Its great he has challenged himself to train with a club who performed well in 2008. Glenelg league played good finals footy while their U19's won the premiership. With the competition being U18's this year, thats a whole side competing for spots against last years squad and any new comers. Smithy does hve the odds against him with extremely fit 19/20 year old lads who are developing and have the athleticism.

If Smith went to West Adelaide, he may have different opportunties. I think Faz's style of footy is probably better suited to SANFL than Smithy's. Faz plays better when the play is moving so he can run off his opponent, rather than muscle out opponents in the goal square.

No disrespect to either men, I would prefer Smith in my SFL team but Farrier in my SANFL team. I would also prefer a very fit & developing 20 year old over Farrier. Jase has his opportunity now, lets hope he can secure his spot and play well.

Sorry boys I think the best defender in the comp is Trav Tedmanson. He takes contested marks and holds the wood over most fowards in the comp.
Then Faz
I personally haven't seen anything that puts smithy up with those two, probably not in my top 5

I totally agree with Trav Tedmanson- Strong quick and reads the play! He would be my no1. Smith, Mckenzie (HV),Wiedermann(cove) to follow. Faz not in the top 30. But great work to be playing SANFL.

What a foolish statement KH how can you be playing S.A.N.F.L. footy in the ones and not rate in the top 30 in the S.F.L. your making yourself look stupid and no one could possibly take a thing you post on here from now on seriously or give you credit for a football brain at all.

At SANFL level most reserves players are young. Not too many blokes in late 20's or early 30's. Those guys are either playing league or country footy. A 19/20 year old kid at clubs such as Sturt and Glenelg who have been part of successful teams (U/19's/Reserves) are not small/weak fellas, but can and will run all day. I disagree WLF, get a strong 'kid' at reserves level and they will be more imposing than you think. As for Tedmanson, he is quality. Surprised he hasnt played more footy at South over the past few years.

So you are telling me that C.Minns is in your top 30 players in the SFL and he is playing league footy this year at south.

IP I agree with you 100%. Reserves is about getting development into the juniors. Smithy is a great player but the bays would rather give the spot to a younger guy who is going to go on and play league footy. As Smithy probably would not make the league side the 2's would love to have him around incase of injury(which will happen) so he may find himself getting a game this season if he sticks to it. Good on smithy for trying to play at the highest level he can, but that seems to be the system of the good league clubs.

Glad you added that. I don't know how many years Peter Keam played reserves at South for at the expense of younger talent.

if you want to play sanfl best bet is to go in juniours play 18's then you learn there style of play and what they expect of you, pretty hard to get a go as an older player, especially at the bay they only want guys from the college system they dont seem to like anyone from up the hill ( i know this first hand thats why i left at u 19's glenelg are wankers)
smithy should have gone to panthers he would be getting a game there
Does It Look Like I Give A F**k

Top two defenders in SFL
Smith and McKenzie both miles in front of anyone else.
Farrier not in top 5, in the top 10 though. (hopefully FLY doesnt get too touchy)
A top effort to play league footy at 25-26 though.
Hopefully he has a great season at West Adelaide.

Glenunga? first i've heard of it, not exactly located in the Southern area.
We would need to find a lot of new, quality players to even be competitive with the bottom couple of sides in the SFL. Mind boggles as to why they would request this. Interesting.

Like other lower SAAFL clubs rumouered interest in the SFL, it would only be in a newly established division 2, as they would seriously, not be competitive in the current setup. As the SFL seems to be in an expansionary phase, perhaps it is time to outline it's future and joining conditions? A traditional country type league with colts playing on saturday or a city league similiar to the SAAFL? A failure to pursue a clear direction will result in a short expansion followed by a equivalent or bigger contraction.
Where's Bill? Yeah... Hmm... Bill is on the Villa Quatro, on the road to Salina. I will draw you a map.

Sorry a little harsh he would be in the top 30 defenders not all players tho. Still think i could name off the top of my head atleast 20 better players in the SFL and i dont know any players from about 8 teams!

Interesting comparisons made between players. If you look at opposition records against Smith - take Milo for instance who is clearly the second best goal kicker in the comp behind Pollard - he kicks bugger all goals against him. What is Milo's record like against Porties and Tedmanson?

You can argue that players perform differently on various opponents, but the stats for Smith over the last few years speak for themself against the best in the comp.
