Hard to say Big Red- our guys havent really gelled (theres that word again!) and Marion have been a bit surprising considering the lack of hype about them preseason, and the handy additions of Bays squad members (Only Couch mentioned but rumours of others?).

My major fears are our slow starts and our defence's ability to handle Smith. If we get off to a good start and can limit Smith's influence I reckon we can get the chockies.

Will be interesting...

Good to see SPECIAL making his mark on the forum. Been a long time sice we've heard much about the Rams. Considering the Bombers smashed them in Round 1, they have been travelling fairly nicely since. This was a side that made finals last year and rarely were embarrassed against the top guns. From an SFL point of view, it is still a worry about the future of clubs that seem to survive year to year on attracting A grade players just to be competitive and have little stock coming through the B grade and juniors. Don't get me wrong, its not fully the clubs fault if their suburb is full of retirement homes and no schools but if that not going to change in the next 10 years, when does one decide that enough is enough. Many will say bring back Div 2 for these clubs but that will just widen the gap between the 2 Divs, just like the late 90's, and deflect even more juniors away to the stronger clubs. In the late 90's many of Cove's juniors defected to Brighton and Reynella to play in a stronger junior comp (we didn't pinch them, they came knocking on our door). It was only when Cove came into Div 1 that they slowly got the kids to stay and the rest is history. If we still had 2 Divs (and add the problems Cove had with their licensed premises and their pretty ordinary home ground) I reckon they would have folded by now.

to tell you the truth MG, the only person who will be able to curb Brad "red muff" smith is his brother. apparently marion VS morphett vale will be drawing a few "smith" supporters out for a watch.
the guy is a monster. easily the biggest guy in SFL... bar maybe that genetic freak that was floating through hackham last year!!

M/Park id say 21 gls ... could be alot of stoopages small ground maybe wet
Morphett Vale by 18 goals... after last week clearly can NOT be underestimated
Game of round... reynella just. Cove not used to being the hunted against top sides

Surely there is a player in your league besides his younger brother who could match up against Brad as he would lucky to be over six foot and is in his mid 30's.

From what I can remember he could take a mark though.

and smash the rams the bombers certainly did round 1.
i know for a fact that the marion boys were EXTREMELY dissapointed with what occurred that day and was a massive wake up call.
Usually those games are closer than the premiership table suggests and Marion are looking forward to the oppurtunity to redeem themselves.
Personally i like one div. the 2nd div would certainly make teams crumble, not just juniors but seniors aswell.
its a broken record but juniors is so important... maybe the strong clubs should handball a few to the stragglers??
"retirement village" is certainly correct. Maybe mike rann could build a slum @ marion and we could breed a few juniors?

hearing you clearly about year to year recruiting. but it is a short term fix down at sturt rd. our long term plan is slowly starting to come about. unfortunately major rebuilds take time. about 6 years ago a couple of the club faithful put the effort in and got sides together for the minis competition. (after the club let the juniors slip off the radar) and as of last sunday we have over 100 minis registered and under 14's and 18's sides playing. all be it with the majority of the 18's being eligible for 16's. we even had young chris richmond (16 yrs old) from the first year 6'7 side we put in play his first A grade game against aldinga this year.

so we may still have a little way to come but were bringing in the right people to bring back the top side marion were, not so long ago.

Hey special love the talk about marion this marion that also who can stop brad and this couch is a gun but don't get ahead of yourselves at the trotting track look at your year so far-
Rd catch up smashed by bombers
Rd 1 played aldinga
Rd 2 beat the twisties thats no great feat
rd 3 bye
rd 4 lonsdale and they aren't a top 8 side
rd 5 hackam
Talk about a dream draw to start with, so I would suggest dont talk it up to much until you get within 10 goals of the top five. All i can say you dont want to end up becoming the next sweendog.
This couch is being talked up a bit but remember you only played the hawks (no offence hackam boys) so lets see how he goes against the real talent.

asert they are not the only ones that believe they are going well at the moment. There is only 1 indicator that tells you where you are in this comp and that is the top 5. Go well against them and you have hope. I said it back at the start of the year that the draw will play a major roll in shaping the finals this year and that 1 of the top 5 will miss finals and at this stage it looks like happy valley.

look we will just have to wait all i can say is from what i have seen we may well be able to get within 5 goals of a top side this year which would be a real improvement thats what im looking for and a more even comp week in week out across the board.Who knows but i tip we may this year make the eight.
