How's your memory ?

Postby SABRE » Fri Jun 05, 2009 1:52 am

Came across this photo of our 1975 State Team and I fear 'Old Timers Disease' is starting
to get me. Without cheating I managed to remember 14 faces from this great team.
With the unrecognised in between, I think I've got:
Ebert, Carey, Cornes, Phillis, Davies, Bagshaw, Nunan, Graham, Taylor,
Gallagher, Stringer, Kerley, Marker & Dillon.
See how you go without cheating. Good luck. :)

Between all of us we should be able to fill in the gaps. What do you reckon ?

I'll have a dip.
Back Row:
Ebert, Woiyt, Nelson, Carey, Cornes, Fred Phiilis, Davies, Bagshaw
Middle Row:
Nunan, Graham, Copping, Taylor, Caldwell, Gallagher, B Stringer, ......., Floreani
Front Row:
......, Voigt, ....., Kerley, Marker, Dillon, Wayne Phillis

I might have a few wrong.
Failure is only the opportunity to begin again more intelligently.

My stab.

Woiye is Peter Woite and you have Fred and Wayne Phillis the wrong way round.

Middle row: It's not Stephen Copping 3rd from left and not Twiggy Caldwell in the middle but looks like Snout MacFarlane.

I think the rest are correct, but I can't pick the remaining ones either at this stage.

Jimmy, I think you're correct with Bruce Light and Brian Colbey as the missing 2 in the front.

Great topic SABRE ...

After posting my last thread, I (cheated and) had a peak on the net ... at least Floreani, Light and Voigt are wrong.

Who are they then?

It's been a while since I looked them up, but I think a couple are wrong 'dedja'.
All contributions so far have been pretty impressive though. Well done guys.
I won't ruin it for others though. Someone might get them all tomorrow.

The first two in the front row are Bob Keddie and Bill Cochrane.
The last one on the second row is Barry Norsworthy.

Give that cigar a monkey !
Before looking up the team details, the photo of Bob Keddie had me flummoxed.
Never knew much about him at the time. For those wondering, here's his write up:
Bob Keddie
Half forward flanker. Joined Hawthorn in 1965, and won their best and fairest award in 1967 and 1969. Represented the VFL and gained All Australian selection in 1969. Joined West Adelaide in 1973 as captain-coach and then moved to South Adelaide in 1974. South Australian representative in 1973 and '74. fast moving, quick thinking half forward.

What it left out was the fact he virtually won a flag for the Hawks off his own boot in 1971 when John Kennedy pulled the master stroke of switching him to FF, where he booted 4 goals and turned a 20 point 3/4 deficit into a 7 point win.

He later coached Sandringham to the 1985 VFA premiership and also played a handful of games for Glenelg in 1977.

He coached in Launceston for a while too I believe. He was probably also one of the first footballers to put an emphasis on the use of weights.

Stephen Michael presumably would be in there, i'd say 4th player from left, back row.
