Eddie Maguire flies to Baghdad to watch a young Iraqi play Aussie Rules. He is suitably impressed and arranges for him to come over to Collingwood. The kid is signed to a one-year contract and joins the team for the pre-season.
In Round 1, the Pies are down by 6 goals against Carlton with only 10 minutes left. Mick Malthouse gives the young Iraqi lad the nod and he goes onto the ground.
The kid is an immediate sensation and kicks 7 goals in 10 minutes to win the game for the Magpies! The fans are thrilled, the players and coaches are delighted, and the media are in love with the new star.
Later on in the change rooms he phones his mum to tell her about his first AFL game.
“Hello mum, guess what?” he says. “I played for 10 minutes today. We were 6 goals down when I came on to the ground, but I kicked 7 goals and we won the game. Everybody loves me, the fans, the media …”
“Wonderful,” says his mum, “Let me tell you about my day.”
“Your father got shot in the street and robbed … your sister and I were ambushed, raped and beaten … and your brother has joined a gang of looters … all while you were having such a great time!”
The young Iraqi is very upset. “What can I say mum, I’m so sorry.”
“Sorry? You’re sorry?” says his mum. “It’s your fault that we moved to Collingwood in the first place.”
very good IO, you should post that on the collingwood site.. did you watch any of the game? I forgot the footy was even on until you started singing the hawks song..

Seen a few moments through the bottom of a glass.. Made everything look Pink... The moments I did see were all good though because it was only when someone told me we had kicked another goal...
