Injured Phantom
I cant believe how often guys get on here & cry about the umpires. Yes they are ordinary and they will be nearly every week. If they were better, they would be doing SANFL U18's or higher. The fact that SFL requires club umpires shows that numbers are scarse.
So you guys who whinge and say that the umpires need to learn the rules etc etc, how about you get off your bums and have a go at umpiring and you can lead the way at improving the standard, even if its school or mini's.

Well Said IP

Why don't the rest of you sit back and count the playing group errors one week and compare them to the umpires errors, bet the players make more more. It is always easier from 80 meters away and more so when you are one eyed or have a couple under the belt. No one is perfect just get on and play, over a season they all even out.

Christies came out with everything with our full back getting punched in the face before ball was bounced then CB kicking the opening 5 goals of game.
We fought our way back into the game to be up at halftime then just after the siren it erupted.
Massive all-in with Mason and McCard going head-to-head and some extremely dirty exchanges took place. Nearly every player on the field in it with the supporters, who had walked onto ground for break, just metres away.
Marion then kicked 10 to 4 goals last half to breakaway but Christies EASILY the most undisciplined side I've encountered but Marion stood up and took it. Still in the hunt for finals...

Red cards?

No red cards. One yellow to CB after melee. Goal umpired is believed to have reported incident before game. It would have been tough to red card the fight, it was the far wing away from club and play, and too many people involved!
After half-time the umpires came out and got full control of game back, protecting player first to the ball which I'd say diffused some spotfires around contests.
CB gave away ALOT of frees in 2nd half in saying that Shoe Boy.

I seen him play in the BL&G a few years back.
My memory of him was that he was a loose running wingman who used to eat hot dogs by himself on the outer wing at Angaston oval.
How does he go these days?
If any knows him, say G'day from The Duke.

I know of Craig Bevan and do know that the bloke can play...he gets tagged most weeks and has come runner up in coves b&f every yr since he arrived at the club, and this yr will clean it up!! He might not get the hard ball everytime but in everyside u need a player who is a finisher, a bloke who recieves the footy and uses his foot skills to his teams advantage.

The lad played ruck against Comer and Shultz and battled well and had a very good work rate around the ground.

Yeah it was young Scotty. He started at CHF and swapped in the ruck. He played well very serviceable as always. His skills have improved alot since being at south 18's and was very welcome back into the side.

Even though we got thumped by the Shoes have to say it was a pretty good contest after half time with some great tackling and close in stuff by both sides, my body will be sore til friday I reckon the rate I'm feeling at the moment.

I still am dumbfounded by this;

Torrens Valley 85.25 (535) d Callington 0.0 (0)

Best ~ Torrens Valley J Hill, D Smith, J Sitters. S Prior, J Trewren. Cal1ington: A Marantos, A Taylor, R Morris, T Clothier, D Taylor. Goals ~ Torrens Valley: J Hill 30, D Smith 17. J Trewren 11, J Sitters 10, M Clayton, S Prior 3, R Battams, N McDowell, J Janke, C Younger 2.

A lazy 30 by J Hill makes Smiths 17 look like nothing!!!

Baachman played ruck & CHF, did have a reasonable game thats for sure, think what their getting at was his bad sportsmanship & not even shake hands after the game - pretty pathetic. Marion played a great disiplined team game & Christies just did not have the ability to control their emotions which is not suprising when I hear they were even instructed to have a free swing at the Rams at half time from their "COACH" thats a great leadership call and a bloody disgrace - have a look at yourself if this was the case. Only reason the umps looked after the Rams was Christies secong to the ball, late hits & whinging their ass off all afternoon. Great game for the Rams & hopefully the boys take a lot out of it. Christies - suggest you bloody have a look at yourselves - never heard so much whinging & abuse from players, coaches & supporters. Did not even have the decency to come into the club after the game for a beer, irrelevant of what happened on the field that is Bullsh%t. Anyway we won so bring on next week.

Knowing bachy pretty well this seems out of character from him, I think maybe he was just frustrated with his team more than anything to do with marion, I wouldn't read to much into it if I was an opposition player...

Pretty Ugly incident down at Hackham in the 16s game. Not sure with the lead up (Words said) as i was on the outer in my car but a Cove water boy who wasnt playing ran down a Hawks player walking away from behind and layed a hit. The hawks coaches box emptied as coaches, players officals began to tussle i did see a hawks coach or assistant (Was on the bench) run in first and lay a few on the young lad. The young lad was escorted away and club officals are seething at him and from what Ive heard around will be told to leave and police are know involved hopefully some charges are laid but with all that has happened this week why are the coaches the ones responding? Dirtiest act ive seen by the kid but for adults to hit kids is not on.

Not sure who he is as im involved with the 14s more but had the Hawks properly responded the lad would and still will be dealt with properly. And in no way am i sticking up for the kid he should be banned for life its just a disgrace on the Cove FC and SFL when people like Ralph Platten and co have worked so hard to erase these incidents.

Saw the game and know Backy well also. Obviously Marion thought Backy would be the difference and tried to cut him out of the game. I agreee this is a good way to beat christies but some of the cheap shots behind play were average. Didnt see enough christies blokes helping backy out. Have read that people think Mason is the toughest player in the SFL well from what i saw i cant agree. He didnt show enough strength to look after his teammate who was tagged heavily. The no hand shake would have been Andrew being pissed at himself for not winning and not a deliberate ploy.

Not only that but again in the 18s game. Few guys having a push and shove not much in it a few others ran in but was quickly defussed by players and runners yet the MV boundary umpire runs in 'apparently' as ive heard threatning a player (again was in the car so couldnt hear what was said but he was cartainly yelling something) then continuing on with with the young runner who was pointing to the boundary line telling him to go back and umpire. This particular umpire then after Morphett Vale would kick a goal would stand in front of the coaches waving his hands around and still yelling at the runner and spectators cheering and clapping after everything.

With several incidents know with boundray umpires, runners, water boys what is the league going to do if this continues as how can players feel save if not only the oppostion to worry bout but all of the above. And when will these people learn that they are volunteering to a job and yes they are hopping their club does well but to visible to cheer, abuse and encourage players get real some people you do the job then do it other wise sit on the other side of the fence and do that. Sorry for the rant but to many incidents and people letting their emotions get ahead of the job at hand be happy to see your side do well but not so the entire oval see's it and thinks your a peanut.

Its bad enough players going at it but they are in the heat of the game. I agree for now on these officals should be banned make an example and let people know that it wont be tolerated. As a parent i go to watch my kid enjoy the game not worry that some water boy, umpire, coach will belt him when things get heated. Especially when they continue to happen in the juniors their having fun its not do or die for the young fellas. Players will always lose their cool at times and will be dealt with this is a new level.

Bit out of character for Bachmann i think. From what ive heard he is a pretty good sport so there maybe more to it than that
If the only reason you play is for a beer with your mates after the game, your playing for the wrong reasons !!
