That is so lucky for Clarke. What a dumb way that would have been to get out

I'm still surprised Strauss didn't claim it anyway

This is gold from the cric info online commentary:

I was waiting for someone to say that  . Didn't bounce before he got a hand on it that was the problem.

Rudi is a joke he just said not out and now has referred it to the third umpire.

Rudi seriously has no idea. Gives it not out, then refers it even though Clarke didn't hit it all because the England players complained

Possibly 2 decisions to be made, and based his first on an LBW?

He asked if it carried? How simple was that, lucky the third umpire was able to tell Rudi he didn't hit it and to give it not out   .

A good point is being made that what was the difference between that and Ponting's decision in the second Test? Such inconsitencies are a real worry.

North is looking real good atm, teeing off but keeping it along the ground.

I agree. I would have thought that these issues would have been sorted once the decision had been made to start referring.

It is a real worry and is what is fueling the frustration at Rudi.

Good partnership by North and Clarke to just about make sure we won't lose this one from here. Both deserve to make 50's and hopefully they are both unbeaten when stumps are called.

Going forward is it time that Michael Clarke steps up to the number 4 spot and put Hussey to number 5? Clarke has been superb this series and deserves the extra responsibility IMO.

Thoughts?

If they get through the next 7 or 8 overs without a wicket with the new cherry then the Aussies are home.
