How many clubs does anyone know that pay players?

Not suspect or think but actually know.

Plympton don't pay.... I think it would be a bit of a joke to pay anyone at are level...

We would be asking for our money back if we payed players last year.

I agree paying people to pay at our level is a bit silly. The culture it has the ability to create is not one i would like to see at our club. The people who are loyal to the club get disillusioned if you start recruiting people by paying them and you lose the players when the $$ run out or they get a better offer and you can lose the people that make your club the way it is.

If clubs do pay players they would want to make sure they get value for money.

Its back-fired on a neighbouring club of ours, blokes were/are offered $$$ and bats etc, only for them to find out that there is more pressure on them to make runs and take wickets. It breeds resentment also because there are blokes that arent getting paid.

Ramblers do not and will not pay players to play cricket. There may be an incentive in shirts or lower subs to recruit players (which has not happened to date), but no payments to players. The incentive for players is that we are a top bunch of blokes with great social atmosphere - and it may be surprising just who we attract with that in the future....

The paying players topic is an interesting one. As AF says, we haven't ever paid players and don't intend to.

Having said that, and being devil's advocate, one can see why it might be tempting for a club. I'll admit, I brought it up as an idea last season. My reasoning being - Coro Valley and surrounding suburbs isn't a highly populated area like down in and around the city, but there's a *lot* of competition for players with big clubs in close proximity (Coromandel, Ironbank, Belair, Flagstaff Hill, Happy Valley and various church teams off the top of my head) - all within probably 5-10mins of us.

We're not affiliated with any football club or other sporting entity nor, up until this year, have had juniors. So as AF said, we've relied on being a good club to play for which has attracted guys for many, many years.

So on the surface, it sounds like a tempting idea. But once you look into it more and see the potential hassles, it's not worth it. Having said that, it must be workable - every "amateur" footy club pays their top players as it's now so ingrained it's expected.

Our under 15's and the seniors. He mainly focused on the young seniors between the ages of 15-21. But also he coached whoever else wanted help.

Stopped briefly at Morphy Parks training for a beer on my way home tonight and can report that Danny Miller is out there again. Fired up and ready for one last year at the highest level they tell me!

Our effort wasn't too bad either, bowled them out for 150 and finished at 8/220 of 24 overs (including opening stand of 140 off about 14). Didn't get the outright tho... they batted well 2nd time around

Well he should be able to devote more time to that now. We have a bloke looking to do the same at our club which is handy.

We don't have a coach tho. How many clubs have coaches? Paid or not? We have had coaches but has never been a paid position.

Couple of Cove boys have asked us bout training dates although i doubt we'll get any. Probably looking for some cash but its in our constition that we dont pay anyone from coaches, players etc etc.

keswick have offered leon hanson from port noarlunga a carton of draught and 3 pale ale long necks as a sign on fee and $5 for every run he scores. he is seriously considering taking his newberry out there

Keswick have never approached Sarge. Darren Marsh was the only player/coach we have ever paid (with cash).
