Popped into the emu hotel for a beer last night to find an unusually well behaved group of emus on their mad monday. Spoke to the lady behind the bar who had nothing but good words to say about them. Well done to the club and the hotel, and good to see dave earl and dave murdock pop in for an hour or so for a beer with the boys.

I was at the emu for a good part of the afternoon and confirm how well behaved the boys were, also great to see so many of the MOB (Morphies Old Boys) there enjoying the occassion. It was one of the most enjoyable premierships of recent times as we had to work so hard to win it, well done to Reynella on a good effort. I wasn't feeling relaxed untill Riggy kicked that great goal ion the last quarter.

Looking at the reynella playing list from sat there are a lot of there match winners on the wrong side of 30,proctor, Prescott, bayliss, mccade, mckeough, smith and thredgold I may have missed a few more I am unsure about. So the question needs to be asked how much more can early possibly get out of these blokes? Looking at morphies side from sat there was only shorty n sampson older than 30. Perhaps a few of the reynella boys should listen to the old saying" if u can't beat them join them."

Ha ha ha...are you saying Shorty's retiring? I heard he asked one of our boys if I was going around again and when the answer came back yes, he said he felt obliged to play on again because he would look soft if I played on and he retired! Lol...

I see Sth Adelaide and Clay Sampson have parted company this morning. I reckon it would be a dream of his to run around with his brother for a year. Wonder if his body is going well enough to see him in the red n black next year.

Was very close to pulling on the boots last year for a game with Dylan so it would not surprise me at all.

DTH 5 out of 8 is great, but why don't you challenge your Sunday junior sides in the premier Comp. (Saturday) Your Sunday teams are really playing everbody elses 'B' or development Teams.

The sunday sides are the boys who can't play on saturday due to school footy so good on them for loving footy so much they play twice on the weekend.

Just heard Grea Mac Kinnon has retired from doing the southern boot. I dont know how long he has been doing the publication for but it has been a great effort.
The sfl are looking for someone to take over.
EMUS? the rock stars of the outback.
emus are berserk. they run fast, playhard,
and to be honest, we admire their insanity.

I've got copies back from the early 80s so it must be sometime before that.
Great job Grae, a true icon of the SFL and your publication will be sadly missed.

Have to inform you all that this rumour is true. Its simply got too hard, and the long hours on Thursday Night have got to me. Too many problems and not enough pay. I've got no choice but to try and find my income some other way.
I'll still be around because the Argus still need me, and I can do that part-time. The Boot was full time work for part-time pay, and that has got me into too much strife over the years.

Thanks for the backup KFP, but its more than coin. I'm old and tired and I've had it. Thursday Nights have been a nightmare. When you get sheets with two different players named with the same guernsey number, what am I supposed to print ? (sometimes they came in directly underneath each other with the same number). The new sheet from the website, when faxxed, always came through needing a microscope to read it. I never want to see one of those things again.
Then there was the "extra points" allotted to teams in lieu of a bye --- I had to print Prem Tables that didn't add up which makes me look like an idiot. Other things like printing corrections because the League had made a ruling and later changed their mind made the editor of The Boot look like he didn't know what he was doing.
More changes have come in making it even harder, like Sunday competitions played on Saturday.
If I did the Boot again next year it would probably kill me.
I appreciate the kind words, and greatly value the friendships that have come out of it, but one more year fighting this white elephant is likely to have me in the grave.
