Bag The Points wrote:Thanks for the backup KFP, but its more than coin. I'm old and tired and I've had it. Thursday Nights have been a nightmare. When you get sheets with two different players named with the same guernsey number, what am I supposed to print ? (sometimes they came in directly underneath each other with the same number). The new sheet from the website, when faxxed, always came through needing a microscope to read it. I never want to see one of those things again.
Then there was the "extra points" allotted to teams in lieu of a bye --- I had to print Prem Tables that didn't add up which makes me look like an idiot. Other things like printing corrections because the League had made a ruling and later changed their mind made the editor of The Boot look like he didn't know what he was doing.
More changes have come in making it even harder, like Sunday competitions played on Saturday.
If I did the Boot again next year it would probably kill me.
I appreciate the kind words, and greatly value the friendships that have come out of it, but one more year fighting this white elephant is likely to have me in the grave.

:prayer: =D> :prayer:

Well done Grae the Boot has been a big part of the Southern League for a very long time i hope someone steps in to fill the void as we will be lost without it. I think this will be a case of the League not realising what it had until its gone.

All the best in the future Grae.

One of my great joys on a Saturday night after coming home from the club was to browse through the Boot to check all the different stats and records. It is this sort of information that clubs use to motivate and inform their players about their histroy against a certain opponent. Coming from the SAAFL, which did nothing, the Boot was a godsend and gave the SFL great credibility. If anyone has seen an SANFL Budget or AFL Record in recent years they are nothing compared to the Boot. Sure plenty of glossy pictures but lacking in detail. I doubt whether any community footy league in Australia put out a better publication. The SFL still needs someone to maintain the club vs club records etc. and I hope Grae can be paid an honorarium to maintain these records. I just hope the SFL can find someone to continue the Boot or something similar.

In fairness to the guys from the SFL I believe I should acknowledge that this has already been done. They were kind enough to induct me into the Hall Of Fame a couple of years ago, which I greatly appreciate.

Don't have a lot to do with the SFL, but like to keep my finger on the pulse with happenings within the league - Well done, sounds like you've done a mountain of work. Though I do feel your pain to some extent mate, i did a little bit of volunteered work for the GSFL this year and it can be a nightmare - Most don't realise you have deadlines and on a Thursday you can sit in front of the computer for 15-20 hours straight doing research, editing, sourcing information, photos, etc. The main problems stem from the individual clubs who don't have 5 minutes to provide you the correct information. If the clubs and committee were on the same page with the 'Boot' and embraced the concept, i'm sure the job would be a lot easier.

MOVEMENT TALK

Already there is some serious talk swirling around regarding arguably Cove's best player and Reynella's best player moving on and finding new homes next season!

BULL SH!T you reckon, well watch this space and people close to these players know that it is a high possibility with the BIG $$$ being offered at some of the best players in the SFL...

I would put my money on Vick and Bradshaw. There is some close connections with these two players to another club.

REPORT CARD 2009 (A GRADE)

Morphett Vale = A+ , Premiers, lost 1 game for the year, reversed last years GF result. Short back into the ruck (for long periods) and return of Beeching was massive for them.

Reynella = A , Pushed MV on most occasions this year, made the GF, won important finals games, good depth with B grade making the GF, lost Moore, Mensforth, Wood etc. but stayed strong, good first up effort from Early.

Brighton = B- , Recruited absoulte gun in Hunter, really good and successful juniors coming through year after year, but failed to make the GF again, pretty good minor round, stumbled on prelim day. underachieved (again).

Happy Valley = B- , Made a prelim, lucky win vs c/beach 1st final, good win vs dissapointing towns in semi, minor round was ok, no real good wins though, some talk of players not getting on with Porter to wel.

Towns = C+ , Got an easier draw, finished in the top 4, lost in straight sets, plenty of depth and some quality players, dont gel as a team too well. Golding and evans coaching partnership questionable.

Cove = C+ , last years premiers never really got going, injuries hurt them big time in missing Gill, Cameron (season) Heath, Ursino (end of year, finals), but added Basir and Hare who are quality. seemed a slightly different attitude at cobra park this year, premiership hangover... who knows!

Christies = C , Made finals for first time in a while, nearlly snatched 1st final as well, got some ok recruits, had a lot of injuries and lack real depth, had an easier draw also. Margains against some top teams were far to big still.

Morphy Park = C , Backed up a finals berth from last year with the tougher draw so did ok, were more competive without being able to beat the top 6, Mail medallist helped them, Still only rely on recruits, no depth and no juniors.

Noarlunga = D , Good youngsters, recruited a few, easy draw, and choked to not even make the 8. 1 good win vs valleys in minor round. Depth is getting better.

Port Noarlunga = D- , perennial top 6 candidate could not even make the 8! couldnt beat the top 6 which didnt help. Hard to understand considering they were 1 quarter away from a GF last year and only lost Mannion (retired) Veide (South) Creek and Heath. But gained Skrypek, Flesfader, Ian Brown, Trevena and other youngsters. Looking for a new coach.

Marion = D+ , with new coach and a lot of older players, no depth whatsoever and bugger all juniors, to nearlly make the 8 was pretty good effort, couch was good (next year?) wade also had his best year.

Flaggy Hill = D- , plummeted from 8th last year, couldnt get near the top 6 or 7 this year and lost to mid range teams as well. Had a few injuries, but the good juniors dont seem to be coming on quick enough. Good win in final round vs. shoes, could act as a spring board who knows? looking for a new coach.

Lonsdale = E , No juniors, less than no depth, injuries galore, terrible defensivley. season to forget, can they turn it around??

Aldinga = F , Lost a lot of paid recruits, but only gained average youngsters. New coach tried but didnt have much to work with, went backwards, were rarley competitve even with the bottom sides. where to now? no depth and 14s are a few years away from seniors yet. Losing to Hackham

Hackham = F , 1 good positive was their 1st win in 2 and a half years vs the sharks. Wouldnt say they improved heaps, but are now young, and didnt get any worse, got juniors but are questionable how good (18s pulled out start of year) Coach seems positive and hasnt given up. good on him and them. still a mountain of workj to do.

Cheers 8) 8)

trust me AFL flyer, ive got some big red hairy balls......... look until the deal is done then im not naming names and adding any extra pressure on these players from there respective clubs. Im sure if you really wanted to know you could make a couple of phone calls down at Reynella and find out before the end of the day.

As for this forum lacking a little, an S.O.S has gone out to our old friend THE MEXICAN to once again grace us with his very knowledgable and sometimes amusing footy banter!!!

I spoke to swooper and he tells me he has some very interesting mail thats just come to hand, im dying to know MEX....
