Premiership Teams pre 1945

As far as I know the 1916-18 games don't count towards game totals.

With the other pre season matches and Champions of Australia games etc. I believe they should be excluded as well from the official game tally, but noted that players did play in these games by putting the overall total in brackets next to the official tally. (As players who played 200 matches are still recoginsed as being part of the '200 club') Fred Bills is currently credited with 313 matches, but as shown in the recently released West Torrens book, he played 306 premiership matches.

This begs the question .. "When did Fred Bills officially record his 300th game?". I think unless we include these matches, we are altering aspects of football history other than just statistical. Players such as Phil Gallagher played 292 games for Norwood and 8 state games making him a 300 game player. I think this record should stand because state matches are representative of the SANFL.

That's true. But when talking about player milestones, it's usually about club matches only, though. Bills played 7 State matches, so it brings him up to 313 anyway. Therefore he played his 300th match in Round 1 1975 (14 matches he played in that year).

I don't think that is correct Spelly. My records shows he did play 7 state matches, but he also played 313 games for West Torrens, making and overall total of 320 games. Maybe you could check this?

Les Shuttleworth is the Grandfather of a friend of mine and he ended up playing in two premeirships for West Perth (1935 and 1941).

There were two Greens who played around 1932 - Geoffrey and Ralph. I'm not sure which one it is.

Also, Smith could be one of three players - Alfred, Arnold or William.

You are correct once again LL, it is indeed Fisher.

The Smith who played was W.Smith, he was reported for striking Hemers of North. The Green who played was Geoff Green. He kicked 9 goals which is still a record (with Malcolm Greenslade) for the most goals kicked in a GF.

I've found that, in some years - especially at the turn of the century - the newspapers didn't have team line-ups.

They just listed the players as a group...
