From what i heard tho if this person moves to adelaide and can get on the park then will be having a kick and a catch with a few mates at the emu.

Heard a rumour today that a few players from A's and B's from MV are on the move. Don't know much more than that except it may be to another SFL club

played against sharpe a few years. Very decent footballer then just wonder about how old he would be now? He'd be well in his 30's now wouldn't he be? Like I said though handy player

Lets be honest on this one, we all want the seedy Mexican back to spice things up a little bit on the forum.

Panther 32.. pretty sure Gill was injured for most of the season this year Leaving Size to carry most of the ruck duties. Heard a rumour that Gill was going to hang up the boots after collecting SFL player life membership this year. can anyone confirm or deny this?

so what happened to big red #1?[/quote]

well good question FLYER, #1 got retired... it was time for a name change and a different avitar. This is all i could come up with!

In correct. lots of clubs offering large sums of money to our players, I expect they all will be rejected. The loyalty these blokes are showing to there mates and football club is unreal.
Earl, Smith, and the Bayly brothers in particular have been targeted.
Nathan Bayly said when excepting his best and fairest award and I quote "I play football for mates, memories and medals not money."
That is why the m/vale football club is such a good place to be. what we have money can't buy, and it,s not for sale.
These players will one day be rewarded with life membership, in m/vales greatest era ,so far.
I would also like to see the Bayly brothers co captain the club.

You guys obviously have a great group currently Ol Man Emu, but do you think with the next generation coming through, that want things now and will be more enticed to chase money and perhaps extra game time, that you may see a change in the culture over the next 5 years? You would hope that they look up to these blokes and follow in their footsteps, but I think with the increasing offers that young players get it will become increasingly harder to keep good players. The fact is as well is that if you couldn't recruit the Bayly's, the Smith's and the Earl's of today, do you start to target the next group coming through?
I've seen younger players in all sports demand things now, including money. If they are studying, or are an apprentice, an extra $250 a game goes a long way to getting pissed on the weekend!

Thats exactly what football should be about but unfortunately for some the lure of the almighty dollar is too strong. These football gypsies generally dont have a place (club) to call home when their careers are over.

Have heard stories from the late 90's of a former Hackham captain saying something along similar lines before signing at the $hoe a few months later.

While there have been a few players leave MV for $$ in years gone by, you can't help but admire the way the vast majority have stayed.

I reckon there is nothing greater than playing footy with your mates year after year, seeing young players come through the ranks, spending time with club legends and being part of a football family.

I don't understand people who shop themselves around and are continually changing clubs so they can earn a few bucks extra along the way. At the end of the day, who really gives a sh*t about a bit of extra coin when you sacrifice the above long term benefits by doing so.

You guys are kidding yourself if you think players at emus esp the baileys who are so awesome cos they aren't taking the big offers. They would be on a decent wicket plus incentives already with no travelling time or expenses.love of the club and playing with mates even better but you are kidding yourself if you think they aren't being paid good coin. I do get that the offers they get are substancially larger and good on them for staying but it's not like they are on base match payments already

Emu$$$$$ :ymapplause: :ymapplause: good post Asert as I for one am sick of the crap coming out of clubs that say their blokes play for love!!
This year we have had more approaches from clubs than I have seen b4 with clubs calling our kids/knocking on their door unanounced/offers of dinner/and $150 a game to train 1x a week and garantee A grade footy this to kids that have not even played an A grade game! FACT.

We understand the recruiting gig but!!!!
These kids are tight and love the club as most have been here since under 10 and are going nowhere. They will be rewarded in the future with the commitment to each other and the club.

Its a bit like our old club mate no one belives its possible to be successful and not pay big dollars. So you end up just letting people think what they want.

You just contradicted yourself their Shoe boy... "as I for one am sick of the crap coming out of clubs that say their blokes play for love!!", then you follow that up by saying..."These kids are tight and love the club as most have been here since under 10 and are going nowhere." Which one is it???

They are rewarded financially as all clubs do! and the club works within its football budget.

Spot on spanner. Noone said these guys were on base payments (whatever that is these days), but what they are being offered is in the vicinity of 5-8 times more and the majority will stay. Everyone has players who will go for money (yes, even the emus), but at the end of the day the emus can simply not afford to compete with these country clubs and refuse to. Im sure most SFL clubs are in the same boat, so a credit to any player who stays at their grass roots club for less. As far as incentives go asert, i think the lure of success at your club is enough incentive to keep anyone in one spot, whatever grade you might play.
