haha nice one BRD and backliner well played.

honestly though, two questions?

1) how many morphy youngsters will need to be cleared from MVFC to play with the sharks? (exact number)
2) How do MVFC feel about losing these players, along with some officials as mentioned in earlier posts on here?

i know it may mean a little or alot to different people, just starting some discussion.

good for the SFL if you ask me, spread the love! would be great to see clubs like aldinga, hackham more competitive, by the sound of it , MPark are going to let the competition down next year..?

By the sounds of the stuff aldinga people are saying, they will improve...but i also heard talks of finals for them before the 09 season...but anyway

Our preseason is going very well. We have more players out every training then we've had in the last 2 seasons at least. We finally have the right people to help us improve. After one season, Dennis is the man for hackham in my opinion. And im sure 99.9% of the club would agree with me. Plus new recruits that look like they're a step up skill-wise from what we're used to.

I dont know if we'll win more than one game, but we'll put up a better fight against all teams. Bring the 40 goal beltings down to 20 goals. And hopefully win games against the lowest 3 or 4 teams...whoever they turn out to be.

We start pre-season 18th January, have a better idea then. Not much point speculating before then, fairly pointless till we play trial games tbh. All I'm saying is we haven't lost many players and picked up a few.

1) I belive there is about 7 who want to go to aldinga. They will all have to be cleared.
they were all in our u/18 2007 premiship squad, we had duel teams that year.
I don't think any of them have played since.

2) Would love to be able to hang on to all our junior players but that is never going to happen.
Some of these kids have been at our club since mini leauge. (and there parents.)
They obviously feel there is more optunity at aldinga.
Personaly they can go with my best wishes, i hope they put in a good pre season and enjoy there football. will allways be welcome back.
See you in round 2.
As for the 2 officals that left, more pies for us.
EMUS? the rock stars of the outback.
emus are berserk. they run fast, playhard,

I think the point is valid however! Aldinga's biggest problem over this decade has always been depth, we have had at various stages a strong spine or strong midfield but never both and then it falls away very quickly. If we can work on our depth in the A's which results in a few players dropping back to the B's and get our B's up and challenging for a finals position (7-8 wins) and by default increasing pressure on A grade positions it will make a huge difference. No point having the icing (top flight A-grade players) if there's no cake!

ps. Always aim for finals (8 wins) but if we can get our percentage up over 40% that will mean that most games we will have been competitive and will have to win probably win 5 or so games

I agree depth is the biggest problem with all clubs that struggle to make the top handful each year.without it you do not have any pressure for spots so therefore your A grade players take the easy road eg make excuses for not training, and in turn the coach is held to ransom because he doesnt have the depth to tell these blokes to piss off.Its hard to rock up on a saturday and tell the opposition your forfeiting because players didnt follow team rules so they were dropped.
The other thing is the lack of talent that run around in these teams blokes who get a A grade game some of the bottom end just arent up to it,so then you look at playing kids. Now this can go in two different directions, you either throw them to the wolves so to speak and hope there quick learners or they dont handle it and are put off by the experience because there just not up to it,or they play ok then think there poo doesnt stink and start asking for coin, and start coming up with weak excuses why they now cant train. So in turn all you have done is breed the next crop of crap players.
So i guess there next thing to do is recurit, now this really becomes the only option for these clubs if they can get some decent new players with good work ethic that can bring some new ideas and really lead the way a struggling club can fast track some development to there youth showing them some new standards of how to go about your footy and add to your depth and giving the coach the option to rid those who donot want to get on board to create a stable foundation in going forward.
I truely believe if you do not have 25-32 genuine A graders in your club you will struggle to take on the top teams.
Its all about Depth.

Would just like to congratulate Flaggy lad, Daniel Webb, who was pick up by the Power today in the Pre-Season Rookie draft.

Great to see a young bloke who is passionate about our club go on to bigger and better things.

Adds to a pretty impressive list of Flaggy boys who have been drafted over the last couple of years. All would be pretty handy in our A grade squad!!

Well said Kung Fu.

We had a similar problem at Reynella about 8-10 years ago. The seniors were absolutely rank and regularly getting flogged by around 20+ goals.

Stephen Keam was really left with no choice but to promote quality juniors and get them used to playing regular senior footy. I guess the main difference between us back then and Aldinga now was that our junior teams had always been strong and there were plenty of quality kids who were good enough to make the grade in senior footy pretty quickly.

It is fair to say that our young A grade side still copped some floggings along the way but it did not take long to turn around. After a year or so, another bunch of young guys came back to the club (after having spent time in the 17's and 19's at South/Glenelg/West) and we also topped up with a few guys in their late twenties e.g. Gav Kuhl, Tim Ginnane, Tony Nobes etc. This proved to be the right formula because we made the GF only two years after the regular 20 goal floggings.

I know that we haven't had the ultimate success at A grade level but the decision by Keamy proved to be invaluable in setting the club up for years to come. Success in the A's meant the B's became stronger, guys trained harder in order to get a game (instead of p*ssing around like they used to), people who had left the club to play elsewhere generally wanted to come back and away we went.

Aldinga are obviously still a few years away from getting decent junior players into their system. In order to get these kids in through the gates and motivate them to stay, they need to have more success at the top end. The only way they can really do this is to recruit some people to the club and hope like hell that they turn out to be quality people who stay and help put it on a positive path so that it can have success in the next three to five years.

Good luck, Brad. Hopefully you get the support you need to see the benefits of your plan and people don't get anxious when you have the odd flogging along the way (as will inevitably happen). I also hope that you have recruited the right people who will strengthen the club well into the future (and not just leave after the $$ dry up or they get offered more elsewhere - like the last crop who joined the Sharks from down Henley way!)

AFLflyer... couldnt tell you the exact number. I'd say Brad would be the one that could confirm that for you.
These young players are emus at heart and i understand the reasons they want to play for Aldinga..... in saying that there is no guarantee that they will stay at Aldinga and possibly want to come home to Morphett Vale where they are most welcomed.

If this is the case, what then for the club and Brads recruiting? i know its all in hindsight but if Aldinga puts the time and effort into these recruits by throwing them to the wolves and playing them in the A grade and there is no return or insentive for these players to stay then i fear the worst and they may pack up and leave. This would be worst case scenario for Aldinga, but what do you do?

Leaving the Emus and playing for another side in the SFL is not looked upto too kindly by the players at Morphett Vale (bit of an unwritten rule really) not that it cant be done (eg. The great liam Shrive :D ) but all the kids know that they are more than welcome to come home at any stage in there career's.

......then the B GRADE

i couldnt find who the loser of the GF's were, but found the PREMIERS

2009 BDOS
2008 BDOS
2007 Reynella
2006 Reynella
2005 Morphett Vale
2004 Morphett Vale
2003 Morphett Vale
2002 Reynella
2001 Noarlunga
2000 Marion

so, adding the B GRADE PREMIERSHIPS to their A GRADE totals, we have.........

Morphett Vale 8
Reynella 3 (all B Grade)
BDOS 3
Noarlunga 2
Marion 2
Happy Valley 1
Cove 1

so to me, still a pretty clear cut winner.

Before we get into a p***ing contest and you bash M/Ville Park & Marion juniors remember some facts. Up the hill and into southern regions, young families are moving in droves due to housing costs and redevelopment. I have stated before on this forum that at Morphies we are doing EVERYTHING we can to get our juniors going. It breaks junior development volunteers hearts when kids who have played U/8's to U/13's then go to clubs like Plympton or Brighton because their schoolmates play there too. It is not our fault that high schools like Glengowrie close down leaving us with nowhere to target for youth. This is not an excuse but if you look back 20 years (glengowrie closed in 1988) our juniors were exceptionally strong. In fact in 1989 our U/18's were undefeated Premiers, & in1990 our A grade won the flag with 4 players from that side playing a major role. We never look for hand outs, but are constantly ear bashed by the SFL that we must have Juniors. Morphettville Park has an aging population, and new residents are often refugees who are very good with the round ball, not so much the Sherrin. We will fight on and will continue to either win or at least put up a fight, especially at home on the "Pastie". One day we will be a powerhouse again

I agree. We live in the middle of a retirement home. Brighton get ALL juniors or they play school footy.
