How many footy players are in the turf cricket teams for the wineflys? Will they stick the season out in cricket and miss the early rounds of footy?

There are two players playing cricket, two of the better players.

I wasn't aware that you played cricket P32!!

I think you will find that I was actually Man of the Match at the inaugral Reynella FC vs Reynella Cricket Club 20/20 match on Australia Day! ;)

As a matter of interest Yetti, what is your beef with Reynella? Aren't you tied up with McLaren in the GSFL?

RFC, I have No beef whatsoever with Reynella. If Brian Rowe had have offered me another $20 a game in 1977 I would have played there. For a strong and Iconic footy club in the SFL they just haven't delivered the goods in A grade during the special times in September. I just point that out a bit and generally someone takes the hook. Peter Jacques reckons the juniors do it to easily and win because there is just weight of numbers.
Of course there are a few blokes at our club who have played under Early when he was coaching down this way and it always comes up how the little villages of McLaren Vale, McLaren Flat and Willunga could win against the big towns of Reynella and Morphett Vale....and win on the big day in September. There is a story that I have heard a couple of times and then a couple of times more, about Early who got absolutely smashed one day and got up and kept playing and told the trainers he was going to walk off so the other side didn't know that they had hurt him pretty bad.....It was a broken leg or collar bone.

Yep involved with McLaren. Between McLaren and Willunga we have won the last 7 premierships in the GSFL :D

Glad to hear that you don't have any real beef with our club, Yetti. I may be biased but I can honestly say that it is a fantastic club that I am proud to be associated with.

As a long time supporter and past player at RFC, it absolutely guts me (and many others) that we have not had the ultimate success at A grade level since 77 (or whatever it is). It is infuriating to think that we would have had three out of the last six A grade flags in the cupboard if we did not continually come up against MV sides at the height of their powers. However, bottom line is that we were not good enough on each occasion.

I think most people would agree that last year was an unexpected outcome for Reynella's A grade. After clearing out some dead wood, I honestly thought that it would have taken Early three years or so to assemble a side capable of winning a flag. The fact that we legitimately challenged in year one suggests that we are absolutely on the right track.

Can't wait to see what the new season brings.

Good luck to your Eagles for 2010

pongys will have 14 points i believe, howell will be 3, gasko i think only 2 as he didnt play last year but maybe 1 if he hasn't played for the last 2 years and if the 3rd bloke played a grade last year he will be worth 3, i dont know how many points they carried from last year but i dont think they would be in trouble with points yet probably can get one more, it would be nice to be a fly on the wall at the sampson family dinners, do brothers still have punch ups after 30!!!!

vics i was not aware of this paper issued by sfl. what was the response from clubs or as usual was there no reply to it?

to looksgoodinleather
Byhaving only 8 teams in competition shortens rounds to 16 which some clubs are pushing for therefore every one plays each other twice no byes.
by combining hackham/osb would maybe turn them into a reasonable side .osb/lonsdale were not such a bad team last season although they didnt win to many games they certainly pushed some sides above them and hackham appear to have a full complement of junior sides this year.so that fills requirements of have all grades play on saturdays.
one would think that aldinga being one of the fastest growing areas in the south would pushing their club in that area to get players to their club.i know the primary school doesnt have sides playing in the school comp any more so there must be a lot kids looking for a game and plenty of adults that also might be looking for games.
This idea may not build sides up in the next 12 months but could and should work for the future.I know these clubs would argue against this but maybe they have to swallow their pride and work for the benefit of the league and themselves or they might just disappear. In the current financial situation there is only a certain amount of money around and by combining the clubs there might be more money for buying players which they seem to be having trouble to do.
I also dont see you coming up with any suggestions.Even your own club christies were around the mark last season.By the way have they moved the changeroom wall in the visitors rooms closer to the outer wall yet? that room is a disgrace players will be getting changed in the car park soon just like the old days.
