Trying to not say too much but will. If it wasn't for players from Henley Beach, Morphettvale and Blackwood, Aldinga would have folded 5 years ago. The locals aren't interested, 95% of them play GSFL. I was told last night it's the committee's fault because we didn't raise enough money to buy players to attract the locals to play.

Merging - not going to happen.

Is this the real reason that the SFL refuse to change from the one division policy................it will force the weaker clubs to disappear, or go to C Grade which becomes the new division 2???????????

Does this mean we will get our five players back who left for Aldinga pre season?

Good comments EV I agree 100%

It sure is easier to lay the blame somewhere else but the majority of the responsibility has to lie in Aldinga's own back yard..

This hasnt happened overnight, but been brewing for many years now. Decisions that have been made long ago in the past will now determine weather the Aldinga Football Club has a future, i hope the sharks do field an A's and B's this season and all players do stay loyal to there club and get them through this tough time.

BRD2 . The key word is contributed.

Of course the primary responsibility is of those at the club, but the league as whole CONTRIBUTED to the downfall by refusing to adopt measures which would have created a more competitive league. Would it be easier to attract players to a club that won 10 games in 10 years (using numbers from a post by R.Fox) or won 20, 30, 40, or even 50 games?

Yes, in two divisions, players may be lost to a division one club from time to time; But the club would be surviving, and when ready, would gain promotion to Division One through a premiership.
Where's Bill? Yeah... Hmm... Bill is on the Villa Quatro, on the road to Salina. I will draw you a map.

Dunno about the best in the league. Lonsdale and the shoe have the best ones! ;)

Locals are interested in playing. As I was told by one life member at Willunga. Most years, they have half a team missing out each week in their junior grades. Where b graders can miss training without reprise at many clubs, you'll get dropped from the side at Willunga.

People are more attracted to winning sides, culture, etc.

Oh really? I can think of one who doesn't, owing to not knowing anything about this. (not having a shot at you, just pissed off about the lack of communication in general. If there are any other players in the dark, might be a good time for the club to get in contact with them.)

It sounds like this has been in the works for a long time if everyone's already got their contingency jump-ship plan in place. ******* hell people, WHERE IS YOUR LOYALTY?!

I'm not a player - my partner plays for them. I haven't been down the club in a while - I'm 38 weeks pregnant and can barely leave the bloody house at the moment! My partner came back from training the other night, said the numbers were great, was looking forward to the start of the season so yeah, this has come as a real shock.

Fair enough, but surely this just hasn't happened overnight, I can't imagine players would not have some inkling that all was not well. Anyway for what it is worth I think it is very sad that this can happen.

Most people at the club were aware of the hard road for 2010, I had no interest in playing and told everyone a month ago, various reasons but DIV1 A grade is not for me and I'm pretty much retired. 6.30pm is a busy time of night. Others have been training hoping for the best but are realistic knowing it might not have happened. still gotta wait till Wednesday's meeting before anything

Ah well, I still don't know too much about just what has happened - I get my info off Facebook mainly  - so if there are any Sharks people reading this, if there's anything that can still be done, ie. if there's still a chance of keeping the As and Bs alive, chuck us a PM. I can't do too much at the moment but I can write letters and ring people and try and find sponsors if that'll help.

Not good news at all about The Sharks, its not good to see this happen to any footy club.I dont know many there but i feel for the people who have been working their buts of to stop this from happening.Players not doing pre season is nothing new but obviously the players who did not show up for pre season will probably regret it now as most successful clubs wont take on the slack ones i would think. Most coaches do ring around to find out what a players training ethic is like.

Would be hard for the players who put in everything......Hopefully this is not the end of Aldinga
If the only reason you play is for a beer with your mates after the game, your playing for the wrong reasons !!

Don't have to play Sunday footy if they don't want to. If they could get it together with the juniors they could just field a Saturday B grade. The opposition A grade can have a week off.

I can think of one club in this same situation as Aldinga only 10 or 12 years ago in the Great Flinders FL on EP. They only played in the B grade comp for a couple of seasons won a flag then went back to the A & B Grade and they are still hanging on. Not sure for how much longer but they are still there.

all is not lost
