Some random thoughts:

Would people be more likely to play for the lower teams like hackham, aldinga etc if the SFL was a 2 division league?

Would knowing you don't have to play the current power clubs like morphies make a difference? Could this make it easier to recruit?

Will be interesting to see what people think...

I guess Animus the answer is that some people cant see the trees for the forest and would prefer 30 plus goal floggings everyweek rather than competitive footy.

No the point is changing to 2 divisions isnt automaticly going to make us more competitive with the Flaggies and Christies...its just going to mean we're the worst team in the worst division...even the better teams in the 2nd division will lose players to the top tier clubs...

once the cycle happens and cove, happy valley and reynella are in the bottom half of the ladder, i bet we wont hear a word from you regarding changing to 2 divisions...and the cycle will happen, eventually...

Div 1 top 6 teams

Div 2 the rest

That would make competitive footy. Otherwise 7th and 8th would really only be playing to avoid the wooden spoon, going on past seasons.

Kangarilla will never come back. They've got it good where they are - why would they want to come back and get flogged here?

Strange kid Asert.
When he was 17ish he played for Marion, and in a game against Brighton he was tearing it up, and got head hunted and was involved in quite an altercation a few years back.
Then the next year he went and played for them??
Sometimes in teams like Brighton, a fringe A grader / B grader, become A graders in lesser ranked teams!
Just like me

Was this guy an A grader or B grader? A mate was telling me that he recognised a couple ex Brighton A/B graders playing for Plympton on the weekend.

I will tip Noarlunga and Brighton,

Reynella havent seemed to get the whole group together yet, so i would say they would need a couple of rounds to start getting things to work.. I think they have only played VH so far, with many senior players missing that one? not ideal preparation.

How have brighton gone in their trials? who have they played?

Or what about something like our indoor cricket scenario, where there are 8 teams in our div- everyone plays against everyone throughout the season, then top 4 play off in the div 1 finals, and bottom 4 play off in Div 2 finals?

If there is 16 teams, top 8 = Div 1, bottom 8 = div2. No need to split into 2 divs til after the minor round.

I guess that could fuel tanking, as the teams 7 and 8 would possibly try to 'slip' to 9 and 10?

Or maybe they could go further and split to Div 1 (top 4), Div 2 (Next 4) Div 3 (next 4) and Div 4 (bottom 4). Everyone has a crack at a 4 team finals series....

Just more food for thought lads, play on...

No way --- means the bottom side gets to play finals. Makes a mockery of the finals system in my book.

Very well thanks AFL Flyer. Beat the Shoes by 5 or 6 goals, Port Dist by 6 or 7 goals and Walkerville on Sunday by 8-10 goals and have rotated our very best players through these games. The B grade have smashed each of these so depth looking very good as usual. Have lost a few players to Marion and Morphy Park, all of them good lads who we would have liked to keep around our club but gone to seek better A grade opportunity which is fair enough. At least you would rather them go to help boost another SFL neighbour than go elsewhere. We have also lost a couple to Plympton for similar reason over last couple of years, most notable being Daniel Roach who when fit and free of injury was a very good A grade player for the Bombers. Most of these players started their juniors at Plympton.

Making no prediction for this Saturday vs Reynella. Recent history between our clubs is that the underdog often gets up.
