I noted the umpiring has already copped a bake and I cant help but agree.

The Flaggies/Brighton game yesterday had some bewildering decisions to say the least.

First 2 minutes of the game a ball up just inside the Brighton 50, one ruckman lept at the contest whilst the other stayed down to try and body. Despite the leaper never taking his eye off the ball his knee got on the shoulder as he got the tap away and it was paid too high. Result was goal.

Now I thought they were trying to take out the whole ruck wrestle, but it appears what is needed in ruck around the ground is a tall old fat bastard who cant jump. Shouldnt say that too loud as I may get tapped on the shoulder...

Later a Brighton defender shepherded and a frustrated flaggy forward tackled the shepherder. Somehow the flaggy guy got the free for hanging on!

Despite that the Brighton boys skills were just a bit better in the conditions (Some really heavy showers yesterday!). Flaggies actually dominated a fair part of the second quarter but missed a few shots at goal, you need to thread every shot against the power teams..

In the end we are NOT happy with our first 3 qtrs against Happy Valley. We started off playing the style we wanted, then about 10 mins in we went back to stupid decision making and they kicked away...it took us til the last qtr to get our act together and kept them to 3 goals in the 4th.

I think the score was 25 18 to 1 1...

Aside from that I really enjoyed the game. Was the most physical game Ive played for a long time (feeling it now) and the spirit it was played in was great. There were big hits coming from everywhere, all day, and not one person lost their cool. Players from both sides just got up, dusted themselves off and got on with the game. Really good to see.

Not really. I think Valleys kicked around 35 against us last year. So there is improvement there. If we can knock 10 goals of every result from last year, then we are going to get to where we want to be. Its not going to happen straight away, and would be silly to think it will.

Yeah some of the umpiring decisions in the ruck contests have me absolutely confused as to what you can and can't do. Same situation happened in the game against Brighton where Tom stayed down and Brookman jumped for it and Tom held his ground and got called for tunnelling.
In the same game on a boundary throw in I got front possie and was called for sheperding. Yesterday in the middle both rucks jumped into each other and pushed off each other and we were called for a push. There is just no consistency.
The only time i've ever been wrong...was when I thought I was wrong!!!

We had two rucks lining up for boundry throw in and the ball dropped miles short and no.16 for mv got pummelled into by them as he was front and centre and he got a free? Then another incident a player jumped for a spoil missed the whole pack but gave away a free as his eyes were not on the ball even though their was zero contact. Have these blokes ever played the game? Where is the Marty Cliftons? And when decisions like this occur t can lead to frustration which is worse as people lose the plot. Lift ya game umps

i guess the umpires have the right to be a little rusty too, just as us players do.

the biggest umpiring screw up with us yesterday at Cove, was definetly the goal umpire.

I undersand we need all the umpires we can get, and this kid was probably 12 years old, but he called 3 "goals" that were at least 1m into the behind zone. the worst part is the much more "experienced" field umpires refused to overrule the decisions.

obviously in a game where we lost by 40 goals it dosnt matter that much, but if that kid got put on a Emus v Wineys game, those decisions could induce riots!

Come on mate. We played Happy Valley who I believe finished 4th last year. If you write us off after one game, against a quality opposition that Ive heard think they have only got better since last year, then each to their own. We know we didnt play how we wanted, but there were good signs for when we come up against a more evenly matched side.

Word is Happy Valleys coach was impressed with what he saw from us. Just goes to show we are on the improve. Like Ive said 1000 times, it would be stupid to think we'd go from bottom to beating HV over just one offseason.

Tell me about it  Was told they'd definitely be on by 6pm Saturday. It's now almost 5pm Sunday and they are still not on.
This wonderful age of computerisation strikes again ----- like Thursday Night when the Southern Boot guys were told "it'll be so much easier for you now 'cos teams are getting emailed direct off the website".
Sure were, and actually receiving sides was dead easy, but then the teams had to be put onto the Boot pages. Website had put all names in alphabetical order, with guernsey numbers all over the place. The actual typing of the sides took twice as long as last year.
This is a new type of horror that SFL has to sort out, or the Boot won't last a month this year.

Maybe you want to look at the top of this page mate...pretty confident i said we are NOT happy with it...you're obviously not too bright so i wont hold it against you. If you think you can take a club that was in our position in Rd 7 2008 with no coach, half the players we needed, etc, to improve any more than we have to this time then you know nothing about football...the only way we could do that is to pay really good players top dollar, and then once the money runs out we're back at square one...if you havent been in our position dont bother commenting on it because you have absolutely no ******* idea...

i havn't seen your other 9 posts mate, but this one alone has made you look like an absolute twit.

do you seriously think that anyone thinks getting hammered like us and Hackham do most weeks is good enough? no one likes to lose, let alone get belted. but, as we are realists, we know it can't turn around overnight. you say we need to do something about it? you think we're not doing anything? you think we want to continue the way we're going? you don't think we wanna win some games, let alone make finals and win flags?

get a life.

No writing anyone off after one game but to only kick one goal in a full game, just thought on the score board you might have more of an impact no matter who you play? due to as stated in other blogs that you have increased your depth and personal.
