The first half was an extremeley tight, fast, hard fought contest and was very happy with what we were doing on the field. VERY happy.
Second half for some reason the guys went away from our structure and started doing there own things & as good sides do you Emu helmets stuck to the game plan and did not get swayed from it and ran all over the top of us which was VERY disappointing.
You guys are the bench mark no doubt about it and with the outs you guys had it was definately our chance to get the points. BUT to your sides credit they were awesome in the last half and deserved the win they did. Worst thing was in a quarter and a half we gave ourselves a complete injustice to our first half performance.
We were very lose in the middle and young Bodey was unbelievable in the ruck and unstoppable. Very talented kid, have not seen him play before and that was one dominant performance, probably one of the most dominant performances I have seen in the ruck since returning to the SFL.
Happy with that ZC, you guys were too good over 4 quarters BUT we will learn alot out of that game and be better for it. Good luck the rest of the year ZC, and hope to see you guys again later in the year.

Word is Happy Valleys coach was impressed with what he saw from us. Just goes to show we are on the improve. Like Ive said 1000 times, it would be stupid to think we'd go from bottom to beating HV over just one offseason.
No writing anyone off after one game but to only kick one goal in a full game, just thought on the score board you might have more of an impact no matter who you play? due to as stated in other blogs that you have increased your depth and personal.
That is one of the things we are really unhappy with and will have to work on. Going into the game we thought it was realistic to expect at least 10 scoring shots vs a team like Happy Valley. Didnt happen, so we are def going to try and learn from it. I really think the SFL should schedule some more even matches for Round 1...say Hackham Vs Aldinga or Lonsdale...for the simple fact that everyones still learning and to get an almost unavoidable belting in the first round really dents the confidence of the lower teams. In my opinion we should have played Aldinga, with Cove playing Happy Valley.
Like ive said a few times now, no excuses (for the nitwits that think im happy with the result)

2 Divisions would give us more even matches for round one and the rest of the season.
Its not only the a grade that is one sided in the b grade 3 teams only scored 1 goal and one team scored 0.
in the 14s, 16s, 18s, 8 teams scored 1 goal while 5 teams 0.
I go to the football to watch all five games, unfortunately there are to many floggings.
This sort of football is not good for any one.
I will witness another one on saturday.M/vale vs aldinga. what a mis match in 5 grades.

RUSH A POINT
I too watch 5 games on Saturday. The difference in standard in A Grade is miles apart. Until the SFL acknowledge this and take their head out of the sand, it is only going to get worse.
My concern however is with the Junior grades. Beltings do not help anyone. The team that wins by a long way don't learn anything, at best develop bad habits. The team that loses get demoralised and don't learn anything. I have seen games where the losing coach puts everyone behind the ball just to slow the scoring. This does not teach the kids to hold position and gives them virtually no chance to score. I hate seeing a team not score in Junior football. Kids need to be rewarded for playing and if that means only scoring a goal then at least that gives them something to get excited about.
I think that the current situation is a real concern and needs to be addressed. If the SFL won't show leadership, then perhaps the clubs need to show some leadership and go beyond their club interests and look at resolving the situation. At the moment we run the risk of losing kids to football (from the teams that get flogged) and the kids from the winning teams are not getting the development that they need.
Clubs like Aldinga and Hackham have worked hard to field junior sides this year, we now need to work as a league to asist these clubs in retaining these kids.
I was at Cove on Saturday and not one of the junior games was close. I would like to praise the Aldinga coaches for encouraging their players. Unfortunately no one was a winner from the games.

We continue to hear that we can't have 2 Divisions because of the so called negative impact this will have on clubs in Division 2, Div 2 Clubs will not be able to retain juniors. One only has to look through the scores over the round to see that we have a quasi Div 2 now. This is not a good advertisment for our league. Surely guys in teams being beaton by 20 plus goals each week would rather play competative footy each week. The pipe dream of the SFL to have a Conference system will not stop lopsided results. Wake up SFL take the hard decisions and move towards 2 even divisions with promotion relagation of Premier/woodenspooner. Results from Saturday will show this.

BDOS def F/Hill 11 goals
Valley def Hackham 27 goals
M/Vale def Marion 14 goals (with half a team missing)
Etown def M/Park 15 points (Thankfully, SFL should use this as an example)
Noarlunga defOSB 15 goals

That is one of the things we are really unhappy with and will have to work on. Going into the game we thought it was realistic to expect at least 10 scoring shots vs a team like Happy Valley. After reading this surely even the most ardent opponents to 2 divisions will see that it is time. If we don't the SFL will struggle to attract new teams to the League. The SFL is quite clearly 2 divisions within 1. How does the SFL expect the teams on the end of floggings to improve without even competition.HH3

Valleys & Cove are still learning to they will only get better, If asking for these fixtures you should be asking for 2 divisions.

Division one would put on some top matches each week - I can only see positives for the Southern League going to 2 divisions.
Which teams would make up div 1 and 2 ?
