Pag wrote:If clubs who would be in the new 'Div 2' are worried about losing players, they shouldn't be. Sure, you might get the odd one who wants to play a higher level of footy (we had one young guy leave us this year in SAAFL Div 4 to play Div 1), but you will also get an influx of guys who are fringe A Graders at Div 1 level who want to prove themselves as A Grade footballers, and the rest who will hang around because they won't have to get belted by Morphett Vale, Reynella or Brighton anymore.

Just because you may start in Div 2, doesn't mean you're stuck there forever. We were Div 6 in 2001, and in 2004 we were playing Div 3. It's not impossible.

It's not all doom and gloom. Ask clubs in Div 6/7 of the SAAFL, their long term goal is usually to push themselves up the divisions as high as they possibly can, and clubs have done it. There is no reason why SFL 'Div 2' clubs can't be the same, and honestly, other leagues look at your results in the Sunday Mail and shake their head at the moment.

If it works for the SAAFL and the HFL (who are probably more relevant to your situation), why can't it work for the SFL?

great post Pag! SFL need to listen to people outside the league.

You're definately no Luke Hodge. I know who you are, i have played in the same team as you before LS. When you look at some of the peanuts running around in mens footy, it makes it easy for a woman to be better than them!!

not sure why most seem to be dismissing Valley this year? Lost a prelim to the eventual winner and their list has improved with apparently a very good CHF and Squire back is nearly as good as any recruit in the comp! Granted their coach is no good, but the players will be extremely competitve against the BIG 4. They may well finish in the 4 once again!

From all reports and Watching him play a couple of times, he struggles with distance on his kicking and quite simply can not shut down a Key forward when playing Full Back. Plenty of bags kicked on him in Past years! ;) ;)

other than that He's a great player and would be more than welcomed back to Morphett Vale next week as has been reported!

Would have been a great full forward. If not for polly.
One of the great Full backs Strong, ugly, mean and attacking. Can take a grab and kicks the ball a mile. Full forwards worst nightmare.
Send him back any time you want.

Having watched the past 3 SAWFL grand finals and having seen a lot of SFL football, the reality is that the SAWFL standard would be hovering somewhere between C and B grades at the lower end. Perhaps an amateur comparison would be a C4 or C5 team. Unfortunately the biomechanics and physical attributes of the fairer gender does not naturally endear itself to our great game.
