the kids 13yo (if what i've read is correct), you either give him help, a calculator etc but to say 'tfu' is ridiculous, some people his age are stealing cars, mugging people etc he isn't so give him a break, how would you blokes like it if it were you child ? i know i wouldn't

How do you know his not, the football only takes 3 hours of the week up.

Remember this is the 2000's the era where kids cant be told there wrong or there not doing well, or heaven forbid they may not be good at something.

Its probably more appropriate to "apportion the blame" to whoever appointed the lad to the position, rather than the actual lad himself.

My child wouldn't be doing it if they weren't up to the job ... and I've got 3 kids so I've got some qualifications on the matter.

What if it's a close game and the score is wrong and the runner doesn't manage to get word out to all the players ...

Fantastic to have keen volunteers but this isn't a job that can afford so many mistakes ... cruel but true.

We'll agree to disagree on this one.

my point of view of the game was that the Eagles were more intense, were hungry for the ball and more competitive. Also they were first to the ball which rewarded them any free kicks which might have come there way.

Sturt have a long way to go to be up to the standard that they were playing on a regular basis last year. Skills were deplorable at times from the blues which was disapointing.

If we play the same way today next week i think Central will kick a big score agianst us.

Were you there today dedja? What if...what if...what if Ben Kane didn't turn the ball over in the prelim last year...
Once again, I never noticed that the scoreboard was incorrect all day..someone give me some evidence. For sure it took some time occasionally, but it always ended up right from what I saw.

I get the feeling that this all started because jellybaby still needed something to complain about, even after his team won convincingly.

Great post dedja.
Fair enough if you didn't know the lads age but it's been quite clearly posted on here.

I was at Unley last week (as I stated earlier) and noticed every time the scoreboard was wrong.

Look, this isn't a life or death issue but as others have stated this is SANFL not backyard footy.

I feel for the lad but please find someone who is up to the job ... all SANFL clubs have managed to do this since Jesus was a lad so it shouldn't be too hard.

Re the scoreboard - good on the young bloke for volunteering, clubs need all the volunteers they can get...but that is a big responsibility for a kid...dont the red coats normally look after that...maybe they were all down at Footy Park?? Sure if it was wrong at the end of the qtrs the goalies would have run over and set him right...but if its a tight game in the last...could be a massive fallout!
Trust the process.

By the way, at League level, this is the first time that a side has scored 24.6 (150) for the match.

yes to both sorry i didn't take a photo when i noticed the score wrong on at least 5-10 occasions.

You didn't notice the scoreboard being wrong because you probably weren't looking at it as your teams season slowly slipped down the drain.

Re: Rd 4 Sturt v Eagles Review

Postby PhilH » Sat Apr 17, 2010 10:25 pm

My first "job" in football was scoreboard attendant at the Plympton Football Club.

This was back in 1985 when I was 15-16 waiting for my licence so I could be in the Woodville Cheer Squad each week.

My "payment" was $5 and two drinks, usually the house specials, rasberry & lemonade.

Even at this level (Glenelg South League) and age, there was an expectation that the scores would be accurate.

In all honesty for SANFL league football the scoreboard should be manned by a league official (I always thought they were) and bar anything else they should have a radio because a lot of callers keep manual track and thus discover an error fairly quickly. If nothing else its useful confirmation, (of course callers getting the score right is another matter  )

Sorry if this sounds tough but certain things need to be correct to have games presented at the right standard and at SANFL league level the scoreboard is one of then.

This is said with no idea how good or bad the scoreboard at Unley was today.
