celebrity supporters !!!!!!!!!

Anything to do with the history of the SANFL

Yeah, have seen Atkinson a few times too. Seems a pretty genuine, passionate supporter.

Turncoat. Must be an electorate thing.

When I knew him at ANU in the late '70s, he was a passionate Glenelg supporter. When I first met him, and we had worked out we were both from Adelaide and were discussing the important things of life, like SANFL :D , his question was "who do you barrack for? Better be the bloody Bays".

Also, Julie Anthony was not just a supporter at Glenelg, but no 1 ticketholder for a while.

I recall hearing that Syd Heylen of A Country Practice fame, was a Torrens fan.

Ol' Mal is a passionate Blues fan, alright... Carlton!

Bruce Beresford even uses a shot of him in The Club at a game.

Of course, it's cut to make it look like he barracks for Collingwood...

Its pretty well known that KG Cunningham is a West supporter.

I wonder how he went back in his umpiring days when he had to umpire West games. Presumably he didn't just select the Bloods/Wolves as his team after his umpiring career finished.

KG played for West's junior colts in the mid-50s. A serious knee injury led to him taking up umpiring as part of the recovery process, but he never went back to playing.

And while we're at it: Sturt - Jason Gillespie, Brendan Fevola

That sounds right about KG, in the footage of him umpiring from the 1960's, i think i can recall seeing a bandage on his knee.

Fevola - FFS! Firstly how is he a celebrity in terms of the strict meaning of "celebrity"? What is famous for other than for being a tool and playing AFL? Secondly he is a friend of Nelson's, I don't think he will be rushing to Unley when Ben retires and thirdly it would be highly unlikely he is a paid up member of Sturt whereas the majority of real celebrities mentioned on this thread are actually paid up members of their clubs.

Geez that would be like North supporters claiming Wayne Carey is a celebrity member but at least he was a past player for the Roosters!
Piss weak SANFL and the CLOWNS who run it.

I was at 'A Toss of the Coin' the other day and while waiting to speak to Gerry, I just randomnly pulled out a Budget from his colllection and it was from about the mid 2000's sometime.

The very first page I opened up to was a Q&A with our very own 'Wedgie' !!!!

There a picture of his mug having a beer with then North coach Andrew Jarman !!

Whilst on politics, I just heard this morning that Radio National's Fran Kelly besides being just about the best political journalist in Australia is an avid North Adelaide supporter. I didn't even know that she was an Adelaide girl.

The Jarman brothers where Port cheer squad members when they where juniors.

I remember a couple years ago at a Port v North friday night clash at Adelaide walking up to Darren and asking if he would like to re-join there cheer squad, I was politliy told he didnt think I would be appropriate with his brother coaching the opperstition.
The problem with Barcelona is that I like fish and chips but they had to turn it into calamari and patatas

Darren was a Port supporter, but Andrew never was, he was a North supporter from an incredibly young age, he only signed with North because his absolute idol, Barrie Robran came out to his place to sign him. It was the closest North have come to a Dynasty, with Barrie Robran only signing with North because of D. Lindner and A Jarman only signing with North because of B Robran. Remember that the Jarman brothers were actually tied to West Torrens under that ridiculous zoning that gave much of the North East to Torrens, but North courtesy of B Robran beat Central and Norwood in particular to his signature.

No, I saw him umpire quite a few matches.
As an umpire he clearly favoured West Adelaide, and when West were not playing them Port Adelaide.
