You would only do that if Adelaide believed the 5th rated kid in the draft is rated significantly higher than 9th. Not sure advancing 4 spots is worth losing a 2nd rounder.

Lose- Picks 9 & 28
Gain- Pick 5

Personally- not a bad deal for all parties concerned, IMO.

I think the Crows lose in that. Basically giving up pick 28 to go 4 spots higher in their first pick. Silly.

Disagree. Giving up pick 28 in what is considered a weak draft, to consolidate 2 x 1st round picks, and giving Adelaide a crack at securing highly rated WAFC lad, Aaron Francis.

The talent between 5 and 9 is worth giving away pick 28?

Well 9,13 & 28 or 5 & 13.

Could the crows be satisfied with Gore, and potentially be looking at a Rookie upgrade?

Are they eyeing off 2 SA lads (Francis and perhaps Milera) to avoid the go home factor?

Im no scout or draft expert, but I'd be taking the 2nd of those options in a heartbeat. All clubs need injections of top-end talent, especially the Crows after losing their best player, and the the earlier the pick, the better the chance of finding it.

I don't think Francis will be there at 9 to be honest, but yes I think you have a point.

I found that a strange response from us based on that. But I don't really care he probably said were weren't happy and the media exploded it to make sure it had maximum impact.

Definately
We want a first rounder and they are offering a second rounder. They need to trade players/picks to get a first rounder.

Well when he is up and about and not sooking or bitching, then yes you can build a defence around him. So I can see what Essendon are saying and as I said a 3rd party will be needed because the mediation will achieve nothing. It has very little value.

My thoughts exactly, JK. Given the Tippett fiasco cost Adelaide 2 cracks at first round draft picks- If I was a crows fan, i'd be wanting as high a pick as possible first up in a weak draft, whilst maintaining the original first rounder.

I think Noble is quietly confident of Francis being around at pick 3-5 or thereabouts, as he spoke on AA last night about the potential to involve the crows in 3 way trades to improve the clubs draft positioning. Given he is a local lad, surely he would fit the crows bill from both a personality and ability standpoint.

Not to mention Selwood is at the back end of his career - hardly warrants anything more than a 2nd round pick IMO.

They need a reality check over there.

Just last year, we lost Jarrad Waite, for no compensation at all. A FF who played in a Prelim final and we got nothing!

They didn't even pick this guy and are bitching that they only get a second rounder. Lucky not to be a third round IMO.

Even if Francis isn't around by Pick 5, still have a better chance of picking a future gun than at pick 9. Pick 28 in a shallow draft could be more miss than hit, so might aswell use it to bump up your starting point in the draft.

Have the Crows ever had a pick as high as 5?

No, pick 7 was our highest and we know how that went...

Courtesy of the Kane Johnson trade in 2002, Adelaide did have pick 2- which was on traded for Wayne Carey.

Does that count?

They had pick 4 from that trade and then traded that to NM...it turned into pick 2 after Carlton got their sanctions. Either way, it was not used so does not count.

Brisbane are matching the offer. Essendon will need to trade now for him. Looks like they wont get him for nothing now.
