Re: Port 2014 - Pre-Season/General Discussion
Reports sugggest Paddy Ryder has chosen port:
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-09-26/p ... s-for-port
What do others think we should give Essendon as compensation?
Personally- I see us giving #16 and a 3 way trade sees Newton gone too (has been linked to Geelong).

I think pick #16 will get the deal done. I think Essendon wouldn't want to push it too much or they could lose him for nothing.

Exactly but due to our current situation they have leverage over us. I dont think the club will risk going down the legal path but personally id rather risk losing him for nothing

You'd imagine it would require Port trading up for a higher pick or including a player of some worth. I don't see Ryder using the escape clause and if he did would that make him a free agent or would he have to go into the draft? Ryder would fit Port's needs beautifully so I don't envisage them letting this one slip by trying to get him on the cheap.

He will go as a free agent. Port are pretty set on what they will offer, Hinkley already said we wouldn't trade any of our better players. Ryder set on leaving and by the sounds of it, it has now become a 1 horse race to get him. Port have also told him that if he's after $$ then Port isn't the club for him. I think Essendon will take pick 16 so they don't lose him for nothing.

Re: Port 2014 - Pre-Season/General Discussion
Yes pick 16 would get that deal done easily given the free agent scenario which we know means Essendon has no chance to get what they think he is really worth.

Yes I would agree there I think thar with the circumstances pick 16 would get it down. But in my opinion Ryder is worth so much more.

No, I don't think so.
Port ( or Brisbane or GWS ) would already have some indication on the potential penalty Ryder may get if he chooses to accept a penalty from ASADA.
This will be a very interesting case to watch unfold. If Ryder and Crameri decide to go it alone it will be very interesting.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.

Damn straight he is, but for once ( and let's see how it plays out here ) it seems Essendon may be showing some level of appreciation for what they have put the players through and as such they are willing to give a little here.

Re: Port 2014 - Pre-Season/General Discussion
Paddy's manager was on SEN earlier today. Mentioned a few key points.
- Paddy will not be accepting any deal from ASADA.
- Paddy needs a fresh start at a new club and it hasnt got anything to do with Hird but there are some issues.
- Paddy desires to come to Port but in the end Essendon has the final say. He believes a deal will be done with Port but it is up to Port to offer up a decent deal.
- Believes he is worth a lot more than pick 16 and its up to Port to get the deal done.
- Didnt rule out other clubs bidding for him but believes Essendon and Port will come to an arrangement

Well done Robbie, awesome season and deserved winner.
How Kane Cornes got within 18 votes of Boaky makes me giggle and pee a little. Didn't get within 18 of him at the Brownlow. I went to every Port home game and to suggest Kane had a season to be compared to Boaky is comedy. Personally I would have had him around 10th.
