Would there be the chance that because they give the coach the longer contract he accepts a considerably lower amount each year for that luxury.
Therefore if they have to cut the contract early the payout figure is really only reflective of what they would have paid the coach had they had to offer them say a 2-3 year contract.

Caddy just traded to Richmond for picks. This one is strange because Richmond wanted Caddy for a straight swap with Lids. Geelong said no and now they trade him for draft picks.. Go figure
