People have all season to challenge Judd's eligibility .. I know discussion took place to a degree, but if he hadn't topped the voting last night it wouldn't even be mentioned again now.

Just smacks of people not having their preferred player winning the medal.

Sorry I disagree with this.

The MVP is picked at the end of the season by blokes who have seen the players play at most twice that year.
The media would affect their choice, and it would be whoever is fresh in their minds.
(who remembered Judd got 5 BOG early this year)

The umpires vote on every game, on the day, and have the best view of the game and unbiased opinions.

The Brownlow has way more prestige and is the Best and Fairest as voted fairly.

I agree it should be carried over. Judd did not deserve to win and even he will be honset enough to tell you that. Just another case where the best footballer doesnt always win, sometimes its the ones with ordinary team mates that wins.
He is an umpires pet

Well sorry we disagree with you. The MVP is the best player not the player with crap teammates

Shows how much better he is to miss the first 3 games and still win.
Pure champion bloke on and off the field.

Whinge and bitch all you want, but Judd is a SUPERSTAR.

The MVP = Most effective player
The Brownlow = Most Skillful

In rough terms

Both awards carry weight, but if you were selecting a side from scratch your first selection would generally be the MVP, imho.

I feel the same way. I think Judd's win has done the football world a favour by opening their eyes to the fact that the Brownlow Medal is a farce. It's no longer relevant.

Judd 30, Hodge 16 ... umpires are wanting us to believe Judd had twice the season Hodge did? I don't think so. Even Judd himself said his season wasn't good enough to win ... he's right.

That is by far and away the most ridiculous analogy I've ever read. How does "twice the votes equal twice as good"? If Carlton had played Hawthorn every game all year, then you might be able to say something as mad as that, but they didn't. Move on.

Correct.

A player also remains eligible for the Brownlow Medal under the following circumstances:

* if he is suspended during the finals or pre-season;
* if he serves a suspension in the current season which was earned for an offence committed late in the previous season;
* he receives any sort of club-imposed suspension which is not recognised by the AFL Tribunal;
* if he is found guilty by the AFL Tribunal of an offence which attracts only a financial penalty.

The Brownlow is awarded over the "regular" season and not finals, hence why the rule is in.

I feel sorry for Ablett, Judd should not have been eligible after he split Pav open earlier in the year. I agree he is an umpires favourite, but to a degree so is Ablett and Swan, its just the latter two had competition from people in their own sides.

Eddies face was the best part of the night, i wonder what his face will look like if they lose on Saturday, ill be watching just for that

What's with the "Eddie's face" gags that everyone is carrying on with. The bloke has virtually a blank expression FFS and it's being extrapolated to him blowing a fuse :roll:

:? not so sure about that, last season Swan polled woefully and this year it appears the umps only thought he was good enough fro wat 2 BOGS was it?

Judd is a champion no doubting, and regardless of being a stand alone star for Carlton, seems to poll votes for just turning up, id be interested to know his career votes, every year he is up there.

Also how often does someone poll FIVE straight BOGS?!? I dont even think Carlton won 5 straight did they?? And the umps are saying out of both teams, for 5 straight weeks he was the best?

A load of crap the night was and it has lost all credability.

Why make Ablett and Swan walk the podium before the count looking like DH's. Typical chanell 10 BS.

Carlton lost by 53 points in round 6 and who gets the 3 votes. :shock: Golden Boy . C Judd. GT FKD Pathetic! Swan had 21 kicks to Judds 15 and 8 tackles to 1.

In round 7 Jordan Russell was clearly best with 35 possesions and 14 marks but yet Judd with 24 gets the 3 :roll:

I went to the round 8 game where Carlton over ran us in the last term and K Simpson was clearly BOG.

As much as I hate Eddie who gives a **** if he had a straight face when the camera was on him?

That still frame is a waste of my viewing. I'd rather look at Breanna Bartlett again... ;)

However, "live" Eddie, when it became impossible for Dane to win, he did look like he was going to break down in tears... :lol:
