Techs were in my street yesterday checking for obstructions in the Telstra pipes.
I mentioned Internode had said thay thought I would be able to connect in about October.
They looked embarrassed and said it was well behind that schedule and priority was being given to newer areas further from the city.

Nbn roll out plans have changed in the last 2 months. The fibre isn't going in as fast as nbn would like, so nbn have decided to concentrate on getting it past as many houses as possible before the election. My area has jumped to the top of the cue.

These are the key facts that the Review found about the NBN and it implementation:

• After three years, the NBN is two years behind schedule
• Labor’s plan was set to ultimately cost $73 billion – $29 billion more than they predicted.
• So far the NBN has only passed with fibre 2 per cent of its own set target – at this rate the job would not be finished until 2024 at the earliest.
• Only one in five Australians would receive the NBN by 2016
• If Labor’s plan was left in place, Australian households would pay up to 80 per cent more for broadband each month – with the price for an average broadband plan being $138 per month. (Current plans on offer are cheaper but there is deficit piling up that will affect longer term pricing.)

I got a notice in my letter box in late March 2016 that it was coming soon, but recalled they had said the same in 2013.
So I haven't held my breath waiting - just as well, I've heard nothing since...

I've had reports from acquaintances in newer areas that had it delivered a while ago that theirs keeps falling over and they were better off with their previous ADSL service. (That could I assume be attributable to the quality of the preparatory work done by the developers and builders in those areas.)

Has anyone got some good recommendations for NBN providers?

Was going to go with Foxtel just to bundle and have one less bill but my house is HFC and Foxtel have an agreement with Telstra that they will not touch that market.

Not a heavy user, mainly use for Netflix and surfing the interwebs.

I went with TPG and they have been excellent. No problems with speed or using multiple devices (phone, laptop, PS4) at the same time. Luckily for me I had the NBN box already set up in my garage when I moved into my new house so from the day I rang them and signed up (Tuesday) I then got a text message on Thursday telling me my NBN coverage was connected and ready to go. All I had to do is wait for my modem to come in the mail which came the following Tuesday.

Plus I reckon you'd probably have proper NBN, not the dodgy shit being rolled out now.

I got hooked up to the NBN via FTTN with Internode whom I've used for years on ADSL and ADSL2+.
I signed up for the 24 mbps deal after discussing whether they could actually supply that speed over FTTN.
It has been reliable, and two testing apps I've used have indicated I am getting 24mbps.

I'm happy - ADSL2+ was only delivering 4 to 5 mbps

When I first signed up my speeds were a little variable for for months now it has been a rock solid 40+/15+ for a 50/20 connection

Internode recently doubled my downloads to 10GB per month at no extra charge, but I don't use much over half most months.
My average consumption may be up about 10% because I'm prepared to download updates twice for two machines rather than transfer them on a USB stick now.

I can see that business use and the big private download users may escalate consumption once unleashed, but how much should we the majority be subsidising that group.
(It is like the SA public paying to upgrade the Adelaide Oval for the less than 2% of the population who ever go there.)

It does grow.
The advent of a new woman in my life who is a rather technically and socially connected one lead to my download use escalating to about 13 GB per month - that included hooking up her Smart TV to my system. Last month we hit a new record high of 30GB, but that did include having just come back from 3 months away (in an area of restricted Internet access) and having between us 4 computers and two smart phones in need of catch up updates...

I expect it will settle back to about 15GB now
However neither of us see any need for speeds faster than my present 25/5 NBN deal.
