Hosting the final would be detrimental??

On the back of his knock in the One Day Final, that was a brilliant century by Jake Lehmann. Credit where it is due. Liam Scott is also rapidly climbing up the ratings as an all-rounder and could come into calculations as a future number 6 or 7 for Australia IMO. The swing he gets would make him handy in England.

A brilliant performance by South Australia.

It sounds like Carey will return and McAndrew would also if fit. I presume Head and Johnson won't be available due to IPL.

I think Nielsen and McInerney will be very unlucky to miss out. Pope an in for Thornton, who would also be unlucky.

McSweeny should open himself in the last 2 games. That's where there is a position still available in the Australian team. He didn't disgrace himself playing as an opener for Australia and I reckon if he hits a century or two in the last two games he could pick himself for the WTC Final and West Indies tour.

McSweeney
Hunt
Carey
Sangha
Lehmann
Scott
Manenti
McAndrew
Doggett
Buckingham
Pope

Queensland beat Tasmania by 9 wickets to go to second on the Shield table while WA v NSW ended in a draw. WA made 6/346 declared with Cartwright make 171* and NSW made 4/130 in their second innings.

Tried posting the link, but it didn't work.

But apparently our illustrious state premier wants the shield final at adelaide oval. Fair call too. But wants the shield final put ahead a couple of days.
Starting Monday 24, scheduled finish friday 28.
It's bad enough starting it on the wednesday as is already scheduled, but starting on a monday?

May as well just play it at Karen Rolton Oval if it starts Monday.
Would Glenelg Oval be available?

I know he’s not most people’s favourite on here, but I wouldn’t be dropping Neilson. Some pretty solid innings this year and batted well with the tail. Carey would bat at 4 for mine.

It’s the AFL dictating the timing, not the Premier, plus the drop-in pitches have been removed so one would need to be installed and removed between AFL matches.

Seems a reasonable compromise to play during the week if people want it to be at Adelaide Oval.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

I would open with Neilson, replacing McInerney. He has opened fair bit in his career, and did well in One day Final. Conor McInerney had too many chances.

Would allow Carey to bat at No.5 after McSweeney and Sangha, followed by Lehmann and Liam Scott. Bit stronger looking batting line up.

Would rather play NSW in final than QLD, so need to win this weekend so that can happen.

NSW batting is horrid, bowling is our strength. Don't want to play against Usman, Renshaw, etc. Plus they have Neser who is just as good as Bird.

I’ve been away so missing some of the bleating of KG etc. about the shield final being at AO. But I’ve had some time for a bit of research and wondering if anyone in the media has stated the FACTS about shield finals for at least the last 15 years. I.e. I don’t believe any have been played at an AFL venue. QLD have hosted at least their last 3 at Allan Border. NSW have only hosted one for many years and that was at Manuka. VIC have either hosted at Junction or neutral (Alice Springs & Hobart). And SA of course hosted at Glenelg which was before Karen Rolton became fully developed. I thought KR was built for this exact situation. So why can’t people except that grounds like the MCG, SCG, AO & the Gabba will ever host a shield final again unless they change the domestic schedule to enable the final to be played late February.

Absolutely spot on.

The day night Test at MCG vs England in March at MCG will be a special exemption but otherwise Victoria have not hosted the Shield Final at MCG for many years.

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas says he won’t be bowing to a “galling” request from the Adelaide Crows for a financial incentive to allow the Sheffield Shield final to be played at the Adelaide Oval between two AFL games.

The SA government, Cricket Australia and the AFL are working towards wedging the final in between Port Adelaide’s season-opening match at Adelaide Oval on Saturday, March 22 and the Crows game at the same venue the following Sunday.

The drop-in pitches used during the season have already been removed from the venue ahead of the Crows’ first AFL home game on March 16 but could be put in for a Monday to Friday clash and then removed with minimal impact.
