$1500 per fortnight to employers in a "Job keeper" package to help employers keep people employed so the transition back into the work force is easier and obviously eases the load on the Centrelink system.
Thats the one my work place has been waiting for.
Now at least we can do some concrete sums and determine the outcome for our small staff team.
businesses will be reimbursed in arrears.
So the onus is on employers to keep people on, and make the payments – and then the government, in May, will pay back the employer (back dated to today)

Correct. And if we remain in lockdown for a long time, a lot of people die. No good solution to this unfortunately.
From what?
Unemployment leads to heart attacks, strokes, diabetes and suicide. Not to mention domestic violence, etc.
Is there any current modelling on this?
COVID-19 modelling modelling suggests going early & hard will save lives and help the economy, but unfortunately none of it factors in the above. It would be useful to cross compare.

Yanks and cruises
My feeling is they need to now make testing available to anyone who presents with symptoms, rather than strictly to those who have been identified through contact tracing.
Maybe after all currently identified cases have recovered, no longer test positive and we have no new cases for a sustained period, do we then look at slowly relaxing some restrictions.
And keep the borders closed!
In SA we have conducted 26000 tests, in comparison Victoria 42000 and WA 13600. We have done a fair number of tests.

This job keeper payment seems too good to be true. I'll get paid $1500pf (gross) for doing nothing? No income test, all this on top of my super and my missus income? Am I missing something?

Reading about CV tonight and came across news that Germany plans to begin widespread testing of citizens for presence of anti-bodies and issue 'immunity certificates' which would allow their work to be exempt from lockdown.

This is what I don’t get, if this kind of system can be put in place shouldn’t we putting billions into this so those who can’t transmit the virus can continue living and earning a wage.

Would of been better if South Africa come up with this
