Odd I think

I think they rate Stocker higher than any potential pick next year. All clubs would already have next year's draft order at this stage. Hopefully adelaide are shit and Carlton improve then it's not that much difference.

Carlton will be bottom 2-3 again next year

Lol
We have had 1 number 1 pick in the history of the draft and that was due to having the majority of our side suspended. Even then we tried our best to avoid it whereas Carlton wear it like a badge of honour and are proud of having pick 1 year after year

This is THE most useless stat in the AFL.

Clearly it means zero. What it does mean is that clubs like Carlton need to get up with the Geelong's, Adelaide's, Hawthorn's in drafting guys ready made from other clubs rather than hold their hopes on unproven talent.

I'm sick of Carlton 'needing' pick 1's. They don't need them they need proven talent and they should be doing everything in their power going forward to ensure we're not using pick 1.

Pick 1 in the NBA and NFL is proven to get the ball and be able to use it in the majority of plays. It doesn't happen in the AFL, the model is flawed and I think the teams mentioned above prove that. They've had sustained finals appearances without having many if any top 10 draft picks.

As an entity, we need to move on from the stigma of top draft picks because it means very little, unless there is an absolute stand out, which I hope this year is. Note, I say 'hope'. Would I prefer pick 1 over a proven Dylan Shiel....hmm, that's the quandry most clubs would ponder. If you manage your salary cap well and your list well, then you'd be in a prime position to attract the likes of those players. I see Carlton trying to set themselves up like Hawthorn but we have a long way to go.

Or perhaps they should just develop their own talent.

You could have 30 top 20 picks but if you don’t develop the players it means zero

What's that mean?

Edit, sorry gotcha. I agree! It's the picks between 30-50 that supplement those players, like Geelong had done previously.

They're idiots if they think Lukosius and Rankine were going to be there at 5 and 8.

yep, and if gold coast didn't get them they would have been abused for letting them slip... unbelievable... If managed well they could have some very handy players.
Dew is a good fit there and he will be real good for them.

Not me, imagine being drafted to Tassie & having to live in Hobart & play & train down there. Absolutely no thanks. I'd be requesting a trade back to the mainland asap.

Love reading Twitter on the draft night. Enjoyed some dirty Norf supporters calling the Crows dogs for bidding earlier than expected on Thomas.

Also enjoyed one Port fan telling another to check out one of their drafted players highlights package saying he doesn't turn it over or waste disposal. Like they are going to whack a couple turnovers or clangers into everyone's highlight package!!
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

Has not played a lot of footy in the last two years. Missed the last 10 weeks of 2017 with a stress fracture in his back and missed a lot of this season with persistent ankle injuries. He is very lightly built so he may be more of a long term prospect.

Sydney were always going to take him and I am not sure if GWS bid for him just to ensure Sydney had to pay more for him or not.

Shows how ****** up the VFL father-son system is. Blakey played 135 games for a club that is dead, Nick could have nominated Brisbane as his club of choice. Load of shit.

I enjoy the romance of the father son rule but I think its coming to a time where it needs to go. Just let the kids go into the draft & let anyone have the option of taking them.
